Whether you are shooting buckshot or birdshot, the zones of fire in the typical California home should not change. Both will penetrate most residential walls.

It's about the carpet. That's why I have plastic on the floors at all choke points.
You try and go John Wayne and blast 3" slugs at the bad guy and miss or hell even hit him and the rounds continue on into the neighbors house killing his 3 year old you're gonna have a new roomate named Buba spooning you at night.
