UTAS UTS 15

Cycled around 50 rounds 1 1/8 oz slugs through mine at the range Sunday and had one failure to eject due to a short shuck. All in all very happy with mine. Money well spent and it seems like it fits my intended mission. I would purchase it all over again. Funny how every Keltec video shows the shooter forgetting that silly little lever to swap out mags - that could get one killed.

Nice. Similar experience with me too. Do you have the updated one?Cycled around 50 rounds 1 1/8 oz slugs through mine at the range Sunday and had one failure to eject due to a short shuck. Well I took the UTS 15 to the range yesterday and fired 100 rounds of 00 Buck. I have to disagree with the negative comments about the gun. I had one failure to feed and it might have been because of me. The short bullpup design takes a little getting used to.
I understand why people think its cheap plastic, the shroud is a flexible plastic, I guess if I was designing the gun I would have made that part out of aluminum but everything else is solid.
Maybe the first gen ones had issues but what new gun doesn't. When my buddy picked up his first Ruger 10/22 takedown you couldn't even line up the two halves. I guess people are always quick to knock something that's outside of the box.
I like the gun and I have fired a lot of weapons. Even with todays ammo shortage I still shoot a minimum of 500 rounds per week.
Its a good weapon. I'll have the Keltec KSG in three weeks and I'll see how that one compares.
One thing I really like that the UTS has over the Keltec is the option to have both tubes alternate feeding. That's 15 rounds without having to flip a lever.
I cant wait to see how the internal light/laser works.
I ordered a Docter sight and Troy Micro sights for it...I'll see how that works out.West Coast Weaponworks

Not only that, its like....
I cant think of any reason to get one over a KSG, except maybe the feeding from both tubes thing. But thats trivial compared to the real issues.
I've only fired a KSG (not an UTAS) but the KSG was supurb and costs way less. I handled the UTS in a shop and it litterally felt like a childrens toy, its internal parts look like they were engeneered by someone who had never designed anything before
like...
"Ok we need something to move the round down, put a little peice of plastic there maybe the shape of a stick or something" (aka follower)
Plus I'm sure everyone has seen nutnfancy's shoot with the UTS15...
If someone bought a new UTS and it works, congrats and I hope it keeps working. Personally I'd avoid it like the plague.Comment

Good report Rough Gear!
I had mine out again and no miss feeds or any other problems shooting 1 1/8 oz slugs.
Personally, I like the polymer side guards, yes they do move when grasped but when the gun starts getting the 50 mission look they will be scratched but still be black.
The forethought and design that went into the gun is impressive. the integral white/laser light is a nice piece - well placed switch location pre-plumbed and with graphics. And the toggle between white and laser is a very light touch and well thought out.Comment

I cycled the action on one of the units at ammobros, it was very notchy. I don't know if that particular unit was defective, or they're all notchy by design. The sales guy told me it should break in, but all other shotguns have smooth actions out the box, even my ksg.Comment

Well I took the UTS-15 to the range again this week. 200 rounds of 00 Buck without any issues at all.
I did read where people said the Keltec was superior to the UTS but self-admitted they never have fired the UTS. I won’t make any statements like that until the Keltec is in my hands and I have fired a couple of hundred rounds through it.
I also read where people say the UTS was just thrown together to compete with the KSG and that’s why it had problems. Where do people get their info? Do they just make this stuff up and then believe it?
UTAS already had a relationship with Smith & Wesson and produced two shotguns for them and they were sold under the Smith & Wesson brand name. In 2006 S&W went to UTAS and asked them to develop this shotgun. US gunsmith Ted Hatfield designed the UTS 15 and for the record both the UTS-15 and the Keltec KSG are based off the South African NeoStead 2000 (NS2000) shotgun made back in 2001. Keltec didn’t break new ground and UTAS didn’t copy Keltec. They both got the dual tube, bullpup design from the NS2000.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the UTS is better than the Keltec or vise versa, I havent fired the Keltec yet, I just think it's funny that so many people are quick to call the UTS a POS.
I’ll keep shooting this gun every other week and I’ll report back when I hit the 500 and then 1,000 round mark.
As for the Docter sight I ordered. It wouldn’t work with the gun. Because of the bullpup design my cheek sits too high for me to get a comfortable sight picture with the Docter. So I put an EOtech on with standard Troy flip up sights. It seems to work just fine. I also mounted a Viking Tactics mount and Streamlight until UTAS starts shipping their light. NOTE: Although in the picture the light is mounted on the right side I actually have it mounted on the left so I can operate it with my thumb.

That is a really sweet shotgun man! I'm super jealous. I've seen the reviews also but one should not judge when they have no experience with one (some haters can't even afford it).
From what I've seen I think the basic pump/semi auto is a lot more practical but if everyone bought whats practical/reliable, super exotic cars and 2 seaters wouldn't exist.Last edited by c3 rolling; 06-05-2013, 12:37 PM.Comment

This is always my favorite statement about the UTS. I would love to hear where people get this information. Just because you read it in another forum doesn't make it true.West Coast Weaponworks

First time hearing about this shotgun. I honestly want it so I can look like I belong in Halo. Hell, doing a photo shoot with a full Halo cosplay and the UTS-15 would be awesome!
Looks pretty close.
