    Left Handed Semi-Auto

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good left handed 12 gauge semi auto for my dad. This gun will mainly be used for upland game and some clays. We recently took the hunters safety course and when we went through the exercise that determined your eye dominance he discovered that he was left eye dominate. This was a shock to him as he had always shot left handed and it made me laugh quite a bit. Well he bought a shotgun before he realized this about his eyes and it is a right handed model. His birthday is coming up and I would like to get him a shotgun for his birthday. I would like to keep it right around $500 or less if possible. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

The only company I know of that makes a leftie semi-auto shotgun is Remington (1100) but they are more than your 500 dollar limit (about 800)

Maybe a pump shotgun that bottom ejects like a browning will work.

I have a bottom eject browning 20ga but its a pump. as a lefty for so long I'm sure hes used to adapting to this right handed world of ours. about the only firearms I've had an issue with my leftyness are the sten and belt fed weapons.

You might be able to pick up a used over/under for that little.. Over/unders are usable by either handed shooters.. There are a few inexpensive makes of them out there. I thought Mossberg was making one?

Yeah, I was thinking of going the over under route as well. Maybe I'll look into the Condor. My Dad really likes the 1100 but I can't afford that at this point. Maybe I'll just give him some money towards an 1100 that way he can get what he wants. Thank you all for the suggestions.

Remington also makes a semi-auto bottom eject model, the 105CTi, but it's over the stated budget amount. See here:

I don't think you're going to find any kind of autoloader for $500 new.

            Good luck!

FWIW, I'm a lefty, my pump gun is an older Ithaca Model 37 bottom eject, and for an autoloader HD gun I've got a right-eject FN SLP Mk 1. The right eject doesn't bother me at all, but it does bother some lefty shooters.

Im left handed and have a REMINGTON 1187 that is left handed. It may be a little over the $500 range but its most likely the most affordable auto around. I love the gun and have had no problems with it at all. I highly recommend them.

When i was young (10 years old) and shooting ducks i had a right handed auto and it was horrible lots of powder in my eyes. Spend the money its worth it.

Whatever you decide on, make sure the safety can be switched around for a lefty. Some simply unscrew/pop out and can be changed. My Remington 11-87 is a righty (safety can not be swapped), and as a lefty I find disengaging the safety to be a pain.

I'm definately looking at the Remington 1187 and is most likely the one I end up going for. Thank you all for your suggestions. I didn't even think about the safety being flipped over. I will look into that for sure. Thanks everyone.

If the 1187 is too expensive then get him a used left hand 870 Wingmaster, nice gun you can find them for 300-350 used
