    Remington Model 11

Anyone know how to find out the year it's made by serial number?
I just picked up one marked with "military finish" on the receiver and US ordinance marks on the barrel and receiver. What are these worth?

$50 but I'm feeling generous, so how about $85 and I'll even throw in a free cup of coffee

seriously, these are my favorite shotgun. they're worth whatever you can get for em. (I've paid $145, $150, but I've seen them go for $350 and up)

no idea about looking up age on them though.

I probably paid too much then ($350) but I had to have it. I've always liked A5's but I never see any with less than a 30" barrel on them so I pass. I wanted a semi-auto A5 in 12gauge with a short barrel and this one caught my eye today at the gun show. He wanted $395 and I talked him down a little. Bonus as it was a C&R so I walked out with it no FFL or waiting.
I parked blocks away to avoid the parking fees and I got great looks from the people driving by as I walked to the car with it on my shoulder.

I have one of those Rem Model 11's as well made in 1907 that my Great Grandfather bought back when he lived in Chico. (Serial number 1001##). Passed down generation to generation. Mine was beat to heck and had seen a lot of use. (Since been reblued and has new furniture) Told it wasn't worth much, and told not worth rebluing. You will find parts to be harder to get than a Browning A5.

I've found it great for duck, and pheasent.

Be sure you have it checked out by a gunsmith before you go and shoot it. I highly recommend it. The last time I shot mine (Pheasant hen hunt at Lake Comanche Hunting Prserve) the bolt would from time to time miss the cycle. .

          $350 isn't a bad price,

I'm a bargain shopper (read college student) so I try to get mine on the cheap.

if its a factory riot barrel that's a realy cool option (I think they were twenty inches with a flaming bomb proof mark)

This is my nice one, cost me $145 out the door (including $20 shipping) I bought it as a sight unseen 'gunsmith special' with the intention of chopping it up, but when it showed up with near 100% bluing, perfect wood and a factory two barrel set, i couldn't bring myself to do it.

the remmy 11 is arguably the best semi auto shotgun ever made.

Yeah it's the riot barrel from what I can tell. Has the "US" and flaming bomb proof on barrel and receiver. Here's a quick pic,

Email the serial no. to Remington, they'll respond with the date.

              Very nice shotgun, btw

Okay I'll email or call Monday, thanks.
I love the way it looks and I want to shoot it!
What's weird is it says "Sportsman" on the bolt and that can't be original. I think it was replaced at some point. The sportsman models only held 3 shells from what I've read.

Nice shotgun. I just picked up a military finish flaming bomb gun off or gunbroker for more than you paid, but I think it was still a good deal. It has the longer barrel.

I've heard that in WWII the airforce used them to train ball-turret gunners. They would ride around on the back of trucks shooting skeet to learn the compound lead they needed shooting from plane to plane.

The military/flaming bomb versions fetch higher prices- $350 ain't bad.

I bought mine as a fixer-upper for $75 It is fixed just fine now, and shoots great! I replaced the springs, and put the spacers in the 'heavy' load position. I also cut.crowned and re-bead-sighted th ebarrel @ 20" as it had a ding above that. I'd like to parkerize it one day to make a fake US one (and to keep it from rusting further).

I wrote to Remington and they where very nice. With the serial # they said my gun was made 1924 and that at that time 2-3/4 inch chambers where the norm, but of coarse they allways suggest taking every thing to the gun-smith for a check up. They also sent me a owner's manual that covered the different friction rings positions.

Do the WW2 have Cutt's Compensators or the AA sight. The one I saw at the Las Vegas History Museum had a AA training clamp on sights that match a 50BMG sights (for training purposes only). FUN FUN

The book I have especially 16gauges should be checked for CHAMBER LENGTH whith a chamber length gauge. If you guys are interested I will post the page for the chanber legth gauges, so you guyz can machine your own gauge. There are wild variations of chamber sizes before 1930 in every gauge but especially in 16ga and 410ga. I want to try out the document setting on my camera - for taking fast clear pictures of white documents. The Chinese think of every-thing for industrial espionage!!!

I just bought a model 11 from a old timer who reworked it to shoot modern shotshells. Its a nice bird gun.

I was wondering if with that riot barrel, can you use buck shot & slugs? if not,
How would one convert/update his mod-11 to shot buck & slugs?
