I have a MB 500. Purchased 1985.
There is no rail system.
Is there a side mount attachment available for more shells?

Yes from $20-$100 plastic to alum. most mount with extended trigger pins.

I like the cloth-based ones made by 3-gun-gear. Held on with Velcro, no need to disassemble the gun.

If you're left-handed you may need to chop off one of the shell holders from the device. I found it more comfortable that way.

The side attachments might take away your peripheral vision on the left side of the reciever.

What you are looking for is a side saddle. They do range in price, but all work pretty good.

nice comparison, assuming you mean that in a complimentary fashion. i own a crown vic and love it. i owned a 500 but have since gone to the winchester defender, which is very nice. the mossberg is a fantastic shotgun though. parts availability/interchangability, priced right, reliable, well-made, durable, etc. they make about 17,000 different models now so you can pretty much get exactly what you want, or make your own. only thing that's always bothered me is that they don't have one with 18.5" barrel and full-length mag tube that holds 7, don't understand this. anyhow, mossies and crown vics are both awesome.

I love my mossberg. i got it around 1985 also. Dont have a side saddle for it though. Be curious as to what you get and how you like it.

3M Industrial Velcro, then your choice of a soft sided and replacable side saddle. 3 or 4 extra, 6 round cards, will help you keep that shotgun in the fight.
IMO hard mount sidesaddles, are on there way out.
