Sorry, J.D., I have to disagree with you on this one. California is full of lawyers, each one trying to make a living. It's pretty much guaranteed that if an unqualified person uses one of those munitions (and I've also taken the CA P.O.S.T. Less Lethal Instructor course given by Def-Tech, I understand where you're coming from), the "victim" will be able to find an attorney to file the suit - if there's any money to be had in it. If the "victim" is killed or severely injured, somewhere in the cause of action you'll find the argument that if the wielder were in danger of death or great bodily harm or injury (to quote the CA Penal Code), then and only then is the use of deadly force justified, and that if the use of an impact weapon were justified, then an impact weapon should have been used, not a firearm, and that the improper use of the munition by the untrained wielder was a direct cause of the injury or death. Never mind that a less lethal munition fired from a firearm really is no more than a baton that strikes at a distance, can't confuse the issue with facts here in La La Land.

After working in courts for many years, I've seen a lot of people sued over sillier things than this. For that matter, you'd be sued if you did strike them with an impact weapon, designed or improvised. You can bet on it in CA. That's just one of the reasons I want out of here so bad.

Hemi55...please no more posts. First, anybody can sue anybody for anything here in CA. Second, civilian Tasers (unlike LE models) are AIR propelled. To be considered a firearm it has to expell it's probes by an explosive charge.
A real issue ya'll aren't considering is, do you think you'll have the time to get to your lethal munitions if your first shot(s) are anything else?

Don't "season" intruders with salt, weigh them down with lead...one ounce at a time.
