I did keep telling myself to calm down and just slow down and do your thing. But I couldn't help but be excited.

Ya, I forgot to switch out my cap to one of my others. My wife said I would have been heart broken if I had to shoot my favorite hat LMAO!!! I don't want to shoot my favorite hat ... I think I'll start wearing mt NRA hat LOL

I bet that took all the pressure off right?

You missed the first one out of the box and that just relaxed you for rest of the 24. Now if you can remember how that felt and duplicate the same feeling of relaxation for your first 25!!!

This is timely advice for me. By the time I get to station 5 I've pretty much forgotten my score and I try all hard to remember, did I miss High 2 and the low on the double or did I miss both on Station 3 or ????? and I FUBAR myself. How do you all keep track of your misses without thinking about it? Any tricks? I don't want to resort to the golf pencil and paper.

It comes down to how much it means to you. If you remember your misses, you can look for patterns.

So, I picked up my fathers old 12 gauge reloaded today. It says junior 600 on it. It needs some cleaning up and some new bottles, but I look forward to reloading. Need to start reading up on that now lol

Very cool, You'll be there in no time soon!

I also shot this weekend..figured it'd be nice to hit the trap field again on Sunday, after Saturday's Sporting Clays run, and ended up at Prado for six rounds. I didn't fare as well as I normally do - kept thinking about the shot after the pull and bead checking...I'm blaming it on the sporting clays! Range master saw me miss a couple during one round, and he called it spot on - "that was a mental miss", he said.

            Rumline,

I keep track but I don't dwell on it, as the second I dwell on the fact that I missed the last one, I'll more than likely miss the next one. I tend to think to myself "look at the bird" and "one at a time". My best rounds are when I'm wholly in the zone and there's that sense of intense focus, but I'm not thinking much (if at all).

This may help keep track -I normally place all my empties in the empty shell pouch - if I miss, I toss the hull in a specific spot by the post I'm on; you can count afterwards and see which stations you missed on...make sure you know which hulls are yours though

oh, since we're talking about trap,

What post do you all prefer to start on, if any?

              ><

I'll make one point and then leave it alone.

You should only focus on what you did right, never what you did wrong.

Try shooting the same amount of targets on each range trip... 50, 75, 100
at the end of each day add up the number of hits 40/ 50 ...72/ 75...try to better the average as a goal. Then sit back at the end of the day and go over what you did Right on that day.

You will get there... The only problem with 25 is that it makes you crave 50... Shooting 49s will make you as crazy as a pair of 24s...

I prefer starting at station 1 or five. I like starting out with the extreme angles. I started at 4 both times I got 24 this weekend. I can't wait to shoot again this weekend.

I also can't wait to start actually reloading. Should be fun

And then what makes it worse....is that once you do hit that straight (25/50/75/100)....then it becomes a goal of doing it again...and again...and again

                          +1000

During the round don't think about what you missed. Just focus on the next bird. One at a time.

I totally concur. When I go out for practice I always shoot no less than 3 rounds, no more than 6. Clay shooting, particularly trap shooting, is all about routine and mechanics. The top flight shooters I get to see do the same things, identically, each and every shot.

FWIW... my goal every weekend practicing is no less than 70 / 75 for any three rounds.

Does anyone know where I can get some good information on reloading the 12 gauge shells? Or what book I should buy to get started?
