Your comment about a design defect is the point...........THERE IS NOT ONE...... and any gun owner with more then an once of gun knowledge knows this. It is only the very gullible that can be influenced by a 'SMEAR' piece from an anti second amendment bunch like NBC and their affiliates and you there Tango are their Target and from your post it looks like they got a bulls eye.

Hate to pick on you Tango but you fell for that mess and that is the only point. If you can fall for that mess from NBC then you can fall for mess from the people they support like, well, you know who.
You're behaving like Remington, responding to something that was never said.

I don't believe this any more than you do from either side, I think I've been very clear about that. Everything I've said is opinion about the public's perception. I don't personally believe NBC outright as I remember their manipulation of their GM crash test with the use of igniters, another product safety story. I don't believe Remington outright either because they haven't given me anything to believe.

Yes, they have. They have given you over 10 million 870's that basicly are the same today as they were in 1950.

You seemed to indicate that you are concerned because you have two 870's and that somehow this mess affects you as a Remington owner. This led me to believe you are some how buying in to this mess. If I am wrong then I apoligize. That land mine stuff and you other comments are very misleading if you are not buying this mess from NBC and a group of lawyers that are like sharks being chummed up. Sure sounded like you think there is an issue to me.

The high numbers won't stand scrutiny until a large sample is drop tested commensurate with the reported issue. That's the easy counter-argument made if Remington uses gross sales in it's defense.

I said the angle of the NBC piece is that these are XX million accidents waiting to happen, landmines waiting to be stepped on.

Either there is a design defect or there is not, but right now because of Remington's actions, there is either an actual defect or a perceived one. My owning two 870s -and your business of working on them- is effected either way. Remington is not being effective in proving them wrong, leaving the smell in the air that these might go off unexpectedly. This question will be nagging the average shotgun buyer for the next few months, probably effecting sales. And you can imagine what's secretly going through people minds when you pull out an 870 at the range. Is that guy going to drop it?

Or we actually do have unsafe guns...

Check this video out. I beat the piss out of a loaded Express 870 with the safety off. Beat it so hard I was knocking the trigger pins out. Did this five different times and the weapon did not fire until I pulled the trigger all five times.

Thanks JD, that's all the proof any reasonable person would ever need to trust an 870.

Celtic - A client told me there is a video like that on the Remington web site but I can't find it. The key words in your post is "Reasonable Person" as there are Remington Haters that will watch that video and claim it is some kind of trick. Anyone knowing me or my rep knows I don't put no mess in the game and can bet their life on my video being the real deal. I trusted my life to an 870 professionally and still will, in fact, still do as that is what is by my bed, another near the entrance to my home and another over in my Custom Shop and yet another in a place that ain't nobody's bussiness.

Also, this mess died down rather fast so I have a renewed confidence in gun guys as being able to see the agenda's behind this kind of mess.

I loaded up my 870 and tried to make it go off outside with the safety on but it never happened. So I came in and I found that APPARENTLY, I think GLOCKS have this problem too, It was documented in a movie...

I have a model 700 Rifle that would discharge when you took the safety off... It would not do it every time but it would do it.. It just scared the living daylights out of me, but it was never caused any close calls as the rifle was safety pointed down range before I loaded the magazine and chambered a round... The rifle had an unmodified factory Walker trigger assembly... This is the only rifle I've ever seen do it... All of my other Remington 700 rifles equipped with the trigger have been 100% trouble free..

The rifle went back to Remington and they replaced the trigger and the barrel at no charge... Forget to mention the rifle was a six inch shooter at 100 yards off bags... It would seem I bought a lemon.. I was a little unhappy when I received the rifle back from Remington and it had an 8.5# creepy pull..
