    Newbie on Skeet Shooting

Hey guys I need Cal GURU's help and opinion on this one.

Me and the wife are planing to try out skeet shooting on our next shooting trip and found this semi-auto deal. Although I never heard anything about this gun before I bet you guys knows something about it. We are planing to purchase an Escort Supreme Semi-auto 12 gauge just to try out if we are going to like skeet or clay shooting.

Bare in mind that we are not planning to go hunting or use this for HD defense since we do have a mosberg 500, AR's, and Remi, to take care of those things. All we need is a good inexpensive semi to try skeet out.

Thank You in advance for any input or suggestion you guys put out.

The first time you go, there's no reason not to use a pump. If you like it, then you can look at buying new.

After all, if it's the first time you've done it, you most likely won't be hitting the doubles anyway. ;-)

I've written up my ongoing adventures as I learn to hunt.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

Why don't you and the wife just sign up for our skeet clinic? This way you can get some instructions on skeet. If you guys need to borrow a couple of semi autos we can arrange that too.

I agree with you 100% but unfortunately the only Pump SG i have is this one and i dont think this qualify as a skeet shooter

Hmm why dont you just rent from the range?? im positive that most shotgun ranges in the LA area have demo guns and guns to rent. its alot cheaper than spending all that money

Now going back to my question, since the Escort is only available till 4/20 do any of you guys have any feedback on this gun?

This is the best way to go. You will learn so much, the drive will be well worth it.

There is more to buying a shotgun to wing shoot with then just buying a shotgun. The folks at the clinic will show you the ropes and help you find a shotgun that is right for YOU. No need to break the bank, just a smarter more informed purchase.

Enjoy your day at the range and break some clays

I'm far from being a GURU but here is my opinion.

I recently wanted a shotgun for some hunting this season and also wanted to do a little skeet shooting as well, I looked at almost every gun out there and researched them to death. Basicaly most of the guns like escort, stoger,CZ are made in turkey. They are decent guns ,but you get what you pay for.

I ended up finding a NIB Beretta Urika2 12g with a 28" barrel for 775.00 shipped to me from kansas. All I can say is look around and buy your last gun first, go to shotgun world and do some reserach and buy used if you can.

Good luck, I would take Jordans advice and do the clinic. They have loaner guns so you can see exactly what you like.

I did traps with a Mossberg 500 and with the rental guns. It was like night and day.

Home defense guns 18" to 20" barrel will have the pellets spread out quickly. I tested this out at an indoor shooting range and the pellets stayed together until 15 yards away.

                    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Proper 28+" barrel shotguns have proper choke tubes at the opening of the barrel to constrict the pallets to stay together at a longer distance.

Try out both your home defense and rent one and you will see the difference first hand. Either case, have fun!
