FWIW, I have a new 870 Express Tactical, and after 200 rounds I have never had this issue. I'm very satisfied with my "crappy" new Remington 870.

Love my Remington too. Shot some great trap scores this weekend with it...
Some of my other friends with 870s no issues either. We had 3 of them at the trap range, and all fired/ejected fine. No jams....

I have an 870 from 1999-2000. I never had problems until I started shooting steel base shells. I measured the rear most part of the chamber and found it was under the Saami specs (thats if Remington goes by the Saami specs. If I put the shell, that stuck in the chamber, in backwards (base first), the shell would snap in and not fall out. Here are some pictures of the chamber and of the Sammi specs. Notice my chamber is 0.8825, and the minimum is suppose to be 0.887 (that is 0.005 undersize). I ground the rear of the chamber with a small ball tip burr, so now the shells don't stick. The barrel in the picture is my factory 26" barrel.

I also noticed that on the steel base hulls that stuck in the chamber, the base was not perpendicular to the axis of the shell (it wasn't 90 degrees). I think that the bolt is pivoting around the single locking lug, and the steel base is getting cockeyed in the chamber.

Marlin - good stuff. Most of all of this is caused by steel based hulls and most of that with the budget value pack mess.

Yes, Remington goes by the SAAMI standards. One thing I learned from the factory class is that there are + - in manufacturing and the operators are the people responsible to ensure these items are in that + - range. So, as with anything esle there can be issues. It is just not the epidmic that some portray it to be and it has not been an issue in the thousands of barrels I deal in. I find more pedestals canted, detents missing and barrel rings unfinished then any other issue, yet we seldom read about these issues.

Your fix sounds perfect and if I do get a barrel with this issue I will do that. And thanks for adding a post that has value in what all ways becomes a pointless and bias debate.

Maybe this is related. My shotgun (Win 87 Clone) came with a recomendation to only use brass base shells. Are the silver looking bases tin or steel?

For the record; both my 870s (Wingmaster and Police Magnum) have been flawless performers from day 1.

                .
They are steel. Tin is too expensive, and it would be tin plated steel anyways. Some of the steel bases are brass plated. You need to check with a magnet to be 100% sure if it is steel. The high dollar STS, Nitro, AA, and Gold Metal hulls are Brass.

P.S. to AIPPI. The problem was only with my 26" barrel. My 24" rifled/scoped barrel and my two 20" barrels don't have that problem.
