    mossberg 500 barrel.

this is a dumb questions for most of you guys.

    i got a mossberg 500 combo, the 28" and 20" barrel.

i went jack rabbit hunting today and it seem i'm not even hitting them in 50 yards.

what barrel model can i used to get a full choke out of this?

i need a barrel that can reach out there and touch a rabbit.

please advise the barrel part #, greatly apreciated.

One w/ a changable choke system will work just be careful on choke size when shooting steel. Also be shure your leading your target

You are not gonna get 50 yard shots with that style of barrel set up. I think you can have your barrel threaded to accept chokes but it maybe cheaper in the long run to go buy a barrel with a choke. you should be able to sell your old barrels to make up some of the cost of the new barrel. Sometimes you find mossberg barrel and mag tube kits. Then you can sell your barrels and mag tube pretty easily

I think your 28" barrel is a choke tube barrel. Check and see if there are little notches inside the end of the barrel. If you have the notches then your gun is equipped with choke tubes. You can install a Modified or Full choke to reach out to 35-45 yards. A 50+ yards moving target will be very hard to hit if you don't have much clays experience.

If you get a barrel that will interchange choke tubes you can put any size choke on it. You can even get choke tubes that constrict more than full which IIRC is used on turkeys. If you have a barrel with a fixed choke you can get it threaded to accept choke tubes. In the old days you used to have to get different barrels to change choke constrictions. Now just the last three inches of barrel can be swapped out to use any constriction that you want.

thank you everyone for your opinion, greatly apreciated.

it's holiday season and i don't really have the kind of money to be spening on a new barrel and they run $170+ shipping.

how much do you think it would cost to have it threaded?

80-100 bucks or shop gunbroker for a used barrel
