The Auto-5

At the last skeet clinic, I had a chance to shoot bikr4jc's Browning Auto-5 12g.

I think I might have to start looking for one on the used market... there's something fascinating about the gun... especially now that I know the design pre-dates the 1911.

The Auto 5 you shot was the magnum versions that is newer I had my dad's 1954 Belguim Auto 5 in the truck that had a full choke that is a very nice old gun.
I shot that Auto 5 all day and my shoulder did not hurt at all, the last 10 shots with Coaches gun killed my shoulder. The auto 5 is a smooth gun!!

My 1930 Belgian A5 is the finest shotgun i've encountered thus far.

There's a magnum version at a local used gun shop for $350 that I think I want to pick up. As you say, the design (and ancientness of it) is remarkable. That and the reliability of the things.

Love my 1967 Belgian Auto 5 they are a Bargain! They can still be found for $400 in excellent shape and when setup right handle light and heavy loads and kick very little

I have a couple. Absolutely wonderful and clever shotgun. Fastest shotgun to load to this day from an empty chamber and bolt locked back.

I agree! A-5's are junk. If you have one, sell it to some old guy with gray hair...there memory is not as good and they don't read any stuff on the net

My wife gave me a 12 Magnum as a graduation gift back in the day. Love that gun. I also have a sweet sixteen that shoulders and points like a dream.


Makes me wonder how a 50 year old Browning would hold up in testing next to a modern Benelli M2. How much of a speed & reliability gap is there between the 2 guns despite 100 years of model separation?

Anyone seen a way to get a pistol grip & M4 type of stock on an A5?
