I bought the same model, for me, it was worth it because specifically I had one shotgun and multiple users. Correct LOP is critical for comfortable shotgun use and this allowed me to adjust it for the varied users to achieve a "best comfort" solution.

Now that they have been shooting a while all three use the stock at its maximum extension.. go figure. However as training wheels the adjustable stock was worth every penny for getting recoil shy people comfortably into shotguns. The other advantage that still keeps that stock on my shotgun is that on HD detail I leave the stock fully compressed. It is much easier to shoulder and move in doors than a correct LOP stock would be for me. Sure it hurts more in that position but I am more concerned about other things should I need to fire from that position.
...but their exists also in the human heart a depraved taste for equality, which impels the weak to attempt to lower the powerful to their own level, and reduces men to prefer equality in slavery to inequality with freedom.

I would only regret the purchase if I was ripped off for it.

Big 5 has the Hawk982 on special a lot. Great shotgun (same as Rem 870) for $199! Yes, the same parts fit.

You should have gotten the 8shot security model for $250. Then get a proper stock instead of that ATI plastic junk Mossberg puts on to call it "tactical".

Thank you for the input guys. I put twenty rounds through it yesterday. It shot nice. Still not sold on the adjustable stock. It was most comfortable all the way out, kinda like a standard stock anyways. But anywho...it's paid for. I like meaty-biz's logic. Keep it short for easy swing. I'll keep it and shoot the hell out of it. Now I'll need to get some real cool sunglasses so I look ULTRA tacti-cool...

I Bought the Big 5 "Security" model, 20" barrel 7+1. It shoots awesome! I tried the pistol grip on it and it didn't feel right. The ambi-safety was unreachable. I went back to the standard stock with a nice recoil pad and haven't looked back since.

Could you have something with less fluff for less money? Yes. Shoot it and see if you really regret it. Personally I don't care for pistol grips and tactical stocks on shotguns so that ends up saving me money in the long run.

i got this model for capacity:

originally was going to get the one you posted, but realized i'd rather have the capacity and a standard stock.

at some point i felt tacticool about it, bought a side saddle, blackhawk specops stock w/shell holder, and a bunch of add ons.

after about a month of playing with it, and after shooting it ONCE (all that crap added like 10 lbs it seemed) i took all of that tacticool crap off. i even ditched the heat shield to shave weight.

Now it's just super basic and i love it for being a 9-shot.

The heck they do! Some parts fit, but what about the barrels. A major benefit of an 870 is the wide assortment of interchangeable barrels.

If you do not like the stock or the foregrip I am sure someone will trade you for a regular stock and grip and some cash to make up the difference. Check the classifieds you see mossberg stuff come up once in a while for realistic prices.

Thanks Rob. Im going to take out to Oroville and shoot it some more. See if I can learn to like it. If not, I'll probably do as you suggested.
