    Made a purchase I regret

Brought home the Mossberg 500 Tactical today. After playing with it, I feel I spent a lot more for fluff. A standard Mossberg 500 probably was all I needed and would have been a lot cheaper. Did I fall prey to marketing or is the extra plastic and nylon strap really worth the extra $$?

The forearm strap-yes. The other stuff-no. Add up the price of a base model 500 and the extra stuff, plus time and labor involved, and it will probably be more than you than paid. And you have it NOW.

Just ditch the strap and trade the stock for a standard one. Pistol grip on a Mossburg is lame, makes the safety no longer easy to reach.

+1. Besides don't regret it until you shoot it. Unless something is horribly wrong with it then I would probably regret purchasing it.

You can't regret it until you actually shoot it. I have the same exact gun you just bought and I love it.

How much more was this one as opposed to the regular one?

I looked at the same one. It has alot of features that come standard that would cost money to get added on anyways. It is parkarized and had a metal forend tube. I almost bought it with the idea of ditching the adjustable pistol grip stock and putting a short LOP stock on it. Would have been ideal to me then. I did some looking around and found most of those good qualities in the Thunder ranch model. I am indifferent to the breacher barrel and the logo. It gets out of jail in 2 days.

BTW Mossberg has only 1 model 500 with many differnt "accessories" changed or added on. I have yet to find one that doesn't have some sort of fluff on them to get them to sell.

Also it makes a butt stroke keeping your finger near the trigger awkward at best.

I think you just fell for the "tacticool" look and quite frankly you grew out of it real quick... otherwise, you have a good shotgun there, just find some parts online to convert it back to a regular good ol fashioned shotgun.

                    congrats on the purchase

I almost got that one but it was $399 at big 5. I got the mossberg maverick 88 security shotgun wich is almost identical to the moss 500 for $250. Add a tacticool pg/m4 stock combo for $55 and you pretty much have the same thing for $100 less.

                        Best Shotgun Deals/Stores

I have seen a lot of shotguns in Big 5 stores, but are those quality shotguns and are their prices fair compared to a gun store such as Turners or other ones out there? I usually have this feeling that I'd probably get a best buy or deal out of a store that specialist in firearms vs. a sport store such as Big 5?

Not quite. The Maverick sports a molded foregrip with the action bars pinned to the plastic. If you ever want to add a surefire or a different foregrip, you will have to buy the mossberg action tube and nut which is about 100 bucks. It is not just the name that makes the Mossberg more expensive.

I went this route. It gets out of jail tomorrow afternoon at Big 5.....Tacti-cool excitment wears off pretty quick, so enjoy it while you can.
