Selling my shotgun

Hey guys I am thinking of selling my shotgun in order to fund another purchase. Just wanted to get some feedback on how much you guys think the gun is worth.

Remington 870 police express w/tube extension (6+1)
Scattergun tech XS sights
Surefire 618LFG
12" LOP Hogue stock

also comes with a case, 250 shells, speedfeed stock, knoxx specops stock/forend and some cleaning stuff if whoever buys it wants it. The gun has had about 150 rounds through it.

I've never sold a gun before so I have no idea how they depreciate over time

You have a nice package there. Assuming it is all in like-new condition, you should be able to sell it for a slight discount to the going rate.

thanks AA It's in good condition and cleaned/oiled every time after being shot. I originally bought it for HD and then I kind of went ballistic with buying parts lol

You aren't kidding about going ballistic on tricking it out. You call it a police. Why do you thing it is the police model? What does the serial number end in? Don't hold your breath on getting what you paid. I can get a true police 870 at auction with a speed feed for around $250.

The receiver says Police Magnum on it I can't get the serial number right now as the gun is at my parents house still.

It's alright if I can't get what I paid for it, in fact I wasn't expecting to! I figure that guns are the same as cars. I poured thousands of dollars into my car but it still sold for barely over KBB.

A good rule of thumb for an excellent quality used gun is a 20% discount to start. At least that is what I would do.

If it's rare or something it's a different story of course. But 80% value is a good place to start and be sure to include upgrades to that minus the value of the stock parts removed (i.e. the difference).

Also pics will help sell it.

If the receiver says Police Magnum you almost certainly hafe an 870 Police. The police guns I was talking of getting at auction are usually pretty beat. Your's sounds pristine. Don't expect to get full retail for it but you should get a pretty good price.

No need to drive to So CA. If it is a long drive, you can have it shipped. Have your parents take pics so you can post them. You may end up with a buyer in So CA. That can be the hassle, doing the private party transfer at a ffl dealer. A LEO may want it if their department makes them purchase their own SG. It doesn't huert to let them know it is for sale on the FS Forum.
