Semiauto Shotguns

Looking to get a semiauto shotty. What is the best bang for the buck semiauto with an awesome track record??

I know the M4 fits that criteria, but with that amount of money spent on it, I will end up babying it and it will turn into a safe queen. Want something I can use at shotgun classes so I can learn to use it properly in a home defense situation.

Mossberg 930. I have one and so do 2 friends of mine. They have been all happy with them, and I have had zero issues with mine. Definitely worth consideration. It's not as refined as the higher end shotguns but I believe it is a good American made product.

Rem 1100, my fathers is about 40 years old, still waiting for a problem.

From everything I have read its the beretta 3901, for about 550 from buds. I have looked into the 930's but there is a plastic that breaks. Cant recall which one. Happens more with the 935 according to the "internet."

There is a plastic bushing that will break if you put it in backwards. I did that once and the small lip broke off. It still functioned perfect. I told Mossberg I broke it and it was my fault - how much to get a replacement part. The sent me an email back within a few hours and said;"Don't worry about it, whats your address? We will drop a few replacements in the mail". I got 3 of them a few days later. I haven't made the same mistake since and it shows no sign of wear after about 1000 shells. I think the problem is people putting it back together wrong.

My Buddy has a 3901 and it's a nice gun. A little more difficult to tear down compared to the Mossberg, but. Not infinitely more difficult. Its a nice choice too, maybe a little more than the Mossberg in price - but not much.

Mossberg 930 costs about $550.

I bought an M4 and I used it for a 4 day course and will do it again in the future. It worked flawlessly. I would recommend it to anyone, but if you think you would baby it, you know yourself best.

+1 on the M4. I usually baby my firearms but the M4 is a solid piece with exception to maybe the handguard, which I want to replace with a SureFire M80. Plastic just doesn't cut it for me.

I wonder why ppl baby any firearm? It's meant to be used and abused.. I have a very pretty Browning Gold with a nice wood stock and I beat on it every chance I get either shooting multi gun or knocking it around a duck blind.. They do not NEED be babied.. they are built for a purpose and that's to deliver a payload of lead or other projectile on target (paper, clay, steel, game, or zombies). If you want to baby anything or turn it into a safe queen, then maybe you need to get into collecting useless firearms.. you know, those gold plated polished and engraved guns that you might find in a museum... I say get the M4 and abuse the heck out of it.. Benelli wouldn't expect anything less.

The best bang for the buck used to be the FN SLP MKI when it sold for $675 (pre-Obama). Then later when it went to $875 (post-Obama). Not sure what they're going for now though. I think Tanner Sports still has the best prices.

I'd look at some used shotguns as well. Most semi's are cared for but not pampered. Probably your best deal will be on the secondary market. Stick with any of the big names and you should be fine.

With that said, I do like my M2 Field 21".

This...i still shoot my grandfathers for trap, made in 1964. I have yet to have a misfire or any other issue. Also have a mid 80's 1100 magnum I tricked out with tactical furniture.
