Can A Good Man find a cheap Semi these days?

Quick bio, I am older, been a shooter all my life, getting into scattergun.

I have a C&R. Over time, have picked up some fine arms.
Last year acquired bolt action, three shot 20 gauge Mossberg.
My first shotgun, really like it, great learning tool. I have been
shooting a lot of clays, getting pretty good at it.

BUT, as you can guess ... I want something more.

I want a semi-auto 20 gauge ...that is my dream.

I have learned that this ain't gunna happen, on my budget.

I thought that I could go for a Remmy 11-48, my price range,
then I learned that these work on some weird recoil system.
They say, "Get a 1100 - gas". I look and they are $500 minimum.

Please shoot me some thoughts on this.
Or some "outside the box" thoughts.
Bottom line; Want semi, want 20 gauge, but will buck up to 12 gauge.

I would reccomend a 12 gauge. Just makes getting hits much easier, because you have that much more bb's in the air.


Although, semi 20 gauge shotguns are good for new shooters.

Mossberg 930's are pretty good value. But I don't think they come in 20 gauge, just 12 gauge.

Escort 20 ga semi got good review in one gun magazine.

It's made in Turkey and cycled light to heavy just fine.

Price should be very reasonable.

I would reccomend a 12 gauge.

+1 for 12-ga. H&R Excel Auto was a great semi-auto for me, costing around $400 3 years ago.

That "weird recoil system" is one of the finest in the world, one of JMBs most crowning achievements. Don't let the "gas is better" crowd prevent you from buying the gun you want. I have a 100 year old Remington model 11 that uses the same basic action as the 11-48, even though is is 100 years old it is still 100% reliable once you set the recoil system right. Most if not all people that have problems with a recoil operated shotgun didn't set the system right and either have very bad recoil because it is set you for light target loads and they are shooting magnum field loads or the gun won't cycle because of the opposite.

Get a Remington model 11 (looks the same as a browning A-5 because it basically is) or model 11-48 (normal Remington "look") both can be found for less then $250, some times much less like my model 11 from a gun store for $75, not even a PPT.

And 20 gauge is not very popular with for that shotgun. Check gunbroket.

+1 on the Mossberg SA20. I just bought one for my gf. We shot my friend's SA20 a couple of months ago and she absolutely loved it.

You might find it both cheaper and easier to get a 12 gauge and reduced recoil loads.

+100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.... . I have the 11-48, A5, 11 and they all operate on the same recoil system. The only thing is you gotta keep the barrel/receiver lubed.
