Here is my 982 with the Wilson +1 extension w/left side sling plate. The Streamlight is mounted to a Laserlyte tri-rail.

Max100 here also makes them ~$65.

            Don't forget about 922(r) issues.

Don't worry, Mssr. Elegante, every time I've mention 922(r) compliance on imported shotguns on this forum, it's always gone to deaf ears too.

I read that Max100 is a piece of (fill in the blank) and ripped off a lot of calgunners, as well as people on different forums. I found a separate thread recommending him and investigated it further to see that he has not been on in years and for good reason.

Wyattearp you have the one shot extension. the thing is that these Hawk 982 shotguns have capacity in the magazine for 5 shells plus 13/8 extra empty space and if the one shot magazine extension have a little bit more capacity than one shell, lets say one 1/2 shell it would make two for the Hawk but as far as I know they are shorter that this possibility and if I would like to add a two shot extension I need to go with the two shot extension anyway and then cut it and thread the end or leave it just like that longer than the barrel

I posted the pic so you can get some idea of the relationship of the end of the one shot to the end of the barrel. The one shot is 2 3/8" overall and comes to within 1 1/4" of the muzzle. A two shot extension is 6 3/8"" in length, so will extend 3 3/4" past the muzzle. That is quite a ways, and may leave the extension vulnerable.

The +1 extension allows me to do just that, load one additional round for a total of six. A seventh round will only enter the tube about half way.

The best solution would be to have one custom made to be about 3 5/8" overall, which would put it flush with the muzzle and allow seven rounds in the tube. That is what the Max100 extension did, but we all know how that venture turned out!

                    Excellent info in this thread.

I wonder how many people actually got their extension from Max100, versus how many got burned... ??? Wish I would've bought from him at the very beginning, before he blew it.

Does anyone have the Wilson 2-round extension? I was looking at the pictures on their website, and the end cap looks like it's pressed into the tube somehow, or possibly threaded? I was thinking, if you could somehow push that endcap OUT of the tube (or unthread it, if that's how it's attached), then you could cut the end of the tube off to the proper length (whatever that is), and then press the end cap BACK into the tube, and you'd have an extension that was flush with the end of the Hawk's barrel, and MIGHT still give you 2 extra rounds...

ETA: just realized, if the end cap is threaded, you'd be cutting the threaded portion off the tube, so that would complicate things -- you'd have to re-thread the inner diameter on the tube...

If the end cap is just pressed in, that would make it a lot easier.

I'm leaving for the day, but I will check mine later today. Just from memory though, it seems to me that the knurled section is what is threaded, so what you're thinking just might work.

Maybe a picture would better explain what I was getting at:

The circled part is the end cap. If you can get that end cap off, then cut the tube along the dotted line (at whatever point gives you a total length that equals the end of the Hawk barrel), then re-insert the end cap, that would do it. (I think) The portion marked with an "X" is scrap.

How is the end cap attached?

If it's just pressed in, it should be fairly easy to remove/re-attach. You could probably knock it out using a thick section of wooden dowel and a mallet.

If the end cap is threaded, that makes it harder because you'd have to re-thread the inside diameter of the tube.

If the end cap is welded or epoxied in, I don't know...

Just thinking out loud here. I'm not all that mechanically-minded or skilled...

Try this if the end cap isn't coming off. Determine how much shorter the extension needs to be. Cut a section that long from just behind the end cap, beiong careful to cut straight across the axis of the tube. Weld the section with the end cap onto the extension. The other way is if the end cup is simply welded on the original extension, cut the extension to length and weld a pice of steel to the end. Of course you will have to cut it so it jjust over laps the end of the extension tube and after welding grind the edges flush with the walls of the extension.

OK, just got home and in looking at mine, it looks like it may be a press-fit. There is a circular ring about 1/16" thick and about 1/4" deep in the end of the cap. Looks like the cap is machined down to these dimensions and then pressed into the end of the tube. Doubt it is threaded in as the threads would have to be very shallow and anyway, mine won't unscrew. These only run about $45-50, so you may want to risk one to see if it can be done. If successful, you could become the next Max100, only honest.
-or- I'd email Wilson and ask them for sure.

This week I inquired of Choate, TacStar, and Wilson Combat about the feasibility of my shortening their respective +2 extensions to fit the length of my Hawk 982's 18.5" barrel.

Choate replied that they could sell me their +2 extension modified to match the Hawk 982's length for $65.

TacStar replied that it can't be done and that to surpass the barrel's length would have negative effects. I didn't receive a reply from Wilson Combat, but I got the same answer when I phoned. I don't fault them for their responses; it could be that my explanation of the shortening was unclear.

A 07 FFL told me recently that there would be no negative affect (apart from aesthetics) in having a mag tube extension that exceeds the front of the barrel.

Vang makes a +2 mag tube extension with an aggressively-edged breacher standoff that so exceeds the barrel, one vendor calls it the "DNA Collector." http://www.tacticalshotgunner.com/va...doff-p-44.html

My preference is for the Wilson +2 extension because of its sling adapter.
