absolutley.... if you're good with an 18.5" barrel

Personally I would go with a longer barrel for trap, Ive used an 18.5 barrel and it is exponentially harder (for me) to hit the target and much easier to hit with a 28" modified choke

Most trap ranges that I know don't like people shooting under 26 inches. Thats just the places that I know of though.

Thanks for the responses! I'm totally new to shotguns. Would it be easy to put a 26" barrel on there to do trap?

Trap is a formal game usually shot with 28-32" full choke barrel shotguns. It is frequently shot with single shot guns as doubles are not commonly shot.

using that shotgun to shoot trap would be the same as a guy with mohawk and tons of piercings/tattoos showing up to a waltzing competition... yes it can be done and maybe even done well.. but you are going to get some looks.. same rules apply.. waltzing comps have a dress code.. trap clubs often have a barrel length rule..
Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

                Let'r rip

I actually set down my clay guns and out shot 12 people goofing off with a tactical remington set up. Go for it! I loved the reaction I got when I shot at a club in Oregon on an open day. I rolled in there with my mint Sportsman 48 semi 20 guage and peed off all the guys with there 4 gun hand carts. Dude was shooting a 25k gun to boot. Just for kicks slap a bumper sticker on your stock before you go just to rile them up a little more.

That model is known for issues and I don't think it will be around long. If you want a pump for sport shooting get an 870 or 500. You are wasting money on that tacti-fool 887 and you will not be happy with it.

So it's weird to shoot trap and skeet with 20" mossberg 590?

From what I gathered in this thread, it's ok if you hold you pinky up while you're doing it.

While most trap ranges have formal policies about barrel length, some can and do make exceptions. I went to Oak Tree with tujungatoes and they allowed him to shoot his .410/.22 combo gun. He shot about the same poor scores as I did with my 870 in .410 but, we had fun. However, I don't know of a real trap or skeet range that makes exceptions for mall ninja guns.

I've done it. I'm just as bad with my 590 as with any other shotgun.

so......You guys with small gauge and open choke guns.....Why don't you shoot Skeet? It is designed for both small gauge and open choke shorter barrel guns. Trap is shot with 12 gauge and to make it more difficult, you move further away from the house. To make Skeet more difficult, you use smaller gauge guns but nearly always shot with open chokes. Also, there is a doubles station with Skeet that is shot every round.
