C&R 870 Project Pic thread (not done yet..)

Here are some pics of the 1955 remmington 870 project I've been working on.

It's got a long way to go, but I figured I'd post pics anyway (its a way of slacking off after finals)

Here she is, what a beauty... or at least she will be eventually

A close up of the real military extension/bayonette lug that I scavaged up for her (it came to me in the original anti-corosive paper wrapping in the factory box )

and a closeup of the coolest stock available for the 870, the factory law enforcement crane stock. (the black tallons are just keeping it straight, when I finally chase down a 21 inch barrel it'll hold itself down.

I'll post more pics when I get more parts in

I take it you've never actually fired an 870 with this stock? It's not something you'll want to be doing on a regular basis, unless you like pain.

Anyone know what Remington 870 serial numbers constitute a C&R (older than 1957)?

You can simply call Remington at 800-243-9700 and give the customer service rep. the serial number and they can tell you over the phone the date of manufacture.

oh man i have to have a link to where you got that magazine extension/bayo lug. what was the cost of the part? ever since i saw this pic and learned it was an 870, i've wanted one:

also, would the standard 18" express synthetic barrel fit with that piece, or would i have to get a longer barrel. lastly, whats the magazine capacity with that particular tube?

any info you could give me would be outstanding. thanks in advance

            p.s. you shotgun looks great!

The bayo lug was a fluke I found looking through archived posts about the MK1, one guy had a bunch of them several years ago and had sold all but one he had kept for himself for a project he never got around to doing. I pm'd him and asked if he had any more and got the last one.

It cost 350$ and was cheap at the price. (they usually go for considerably more in that condition)

the mk1 extension only works with a 21 inch barrel, and should be used in conjunction with an early modified choke slug barrel with rifle sights (the one in the pic above is missing the blade sight)

they originally came with a rifle style sight mounted on top of the bayo lug brace, but the replacement parts all had ball sights as the blade sights were a bit high.

Nice score on the bayo lug and an original folder to boot! Very nice.

If it were me, I'd see if I could find wood furniture instead. Folders look cool but arent very comfortable, plus the wood will give it a more correct look.

I thought about going with the wood stock, but It's not really a Mk1 clone, I just want a MK1 front end on it because I like the look.

I'd like to put a surefire forend on it but I don't know if the baynoette lug would interfere with the light.

If it won't work, then It's getting an old school smooth wood grip with the words "B*tch Be Good" burned onto it in a gothic Script by my buddy who does caligraphy

It's just the perspective that makes it look long, its only a 21 inch barrel and a 7 shot mag tube, it weighs about the same as a comprable winchester (a little more maby but not much)

thanks for the information. I had a sneaking suspision that the price would be somewhat high. maybe i'll save finding that part for a later build and not my first 870

                        thanks again

Original bayo lugs arent cheap or easy to find. The cheapest I saw was for 240 a year or so ago.

There was a guy who was thinking about producing a copy over on ARFcom, in the shotgun forum. Last I read, he was taking measurements and finalizing the design.

No wonder you needed a 21" barrel

It's coming along very nicely Marc.

I'm scavanging some parts as we speak, I'm hoping that I can get it fully built in the next few weeks (those 21 inch barrels are hard to come by)
