I think I officially hate my Mossberg 930

ok now that i've pissed all the Remington guys off....I suggest a complete breakdown of the gun. There's likely something stuck inside that is screwing up the firing pin. It could just be too much grease or it might be some metal shavings. If not, at least you'll know that's not the problem. That's just where i'd start looking anways...

Ya cleaning isnt the problem, im a stickler on that. Also I got a question, my mag tube whete the gas system is, is severly chewed up. It has always been lightly oiled, is this normal? Could that explain the problem? Either way I guess I might have to just send it back or trade it to one of you guys for a older m1

Hmmm, can you post up a pic. I think a call to Mossberg is in order now. How old is it? Is it one of the first run models? Its worth sending it back, maybe they will send you a new one all together, then you could sell that one brand new.

Crud on the Mag Tube

It is normal to have some build up on the magazine tube where the gas system operates and it is important to clean it. I use two products: M-Pro-7 or Carbon Killer by slip 2000 and some 000 steel wool to speed the cleaning process.
I apply just enough light oil (FP-10) to protect the surface. Check the gas piston. It should move with a little resistance back and forth. It shouldn't have to be "pried" out for cleaning (wiggled only). When re-assembled it too should be lightly lubed with some oil, especially sealing the rings. A little on the outside and a little on the inside.
Watch for things falling out of the gas block. One of the small internal gas rings came out of the gas block of mine. It was causing the FTEject. This was not an operator fixable break. It went back to Mossberg, they replaced the gun because along with the failures to extract there were FTF, eject and even some magazine early releases (shell stop failures). I experienced ridicule from my shooting pals about my "Mossberg Jam-o-Matic". But not any more. Now they see me with my 930 and they know I there to win.
So hang in there Rudeboy3, when you get the 930 running, you'll love it.

Thanks for the reply mossberg man, the mag tube doesnt have build up, it looks like someone took a dremel tool to it. I think im going to call mossberg today.

the 930 is a semi and the 870 is a pump. The 500 is comparable to the 870, except the 870 is better.

Not sure if this helps, but I’ve put about 500 rounds through my 930 SPX and found I can cycle shells over 1290 fps without any issues. Anything less, and I'll have cycling issues. At the range I practice with Game Load. Again, no issue with these:

Estate (GTL12-7.5)
Federal (H121 7.5)

And the price is right. Give them a try before selling your 930. I love and trust mine!!!

Alright guys I have some pictures for you guys to look at of the mag tube. When I took it apart I found out it was loose as well chewed up. I got this gun about 7 months ago for everyone who asked.

My 930SPX has been 100% rock solid since initial break-in. If you are having probs, make Mossberg make it right.

Does your mag tube look like that? And I think im going to take everyone's advice and have them make it right. It's a little annoying when this is my first Mossberg and it ends up being like this.

My wife's 930 spx works great...she cleans it regularly (it came all nasty with oil everywhere too). The only thing that has caused ejection/feeding issues is the fiocchi low recoil buckshot. Federal birdshot and low recoil buckshots/slugs work perfect.

Her's has those marks on the mag tube as well...but I take a 000 steel wool and lightly polish out that gunk build up...I'm not sure if that would cause any real issues though? But then again, I'm new to firearms.

What happens when it fails to feed? Does the shell get jammed before it goes into the chamber? Could this gun benefit from polishing the chamber like 870's?

Also, my wife, cleans out the mag tube and wipes down the follower and spring too? Also, her charge handle looks different that yours...her's is a big cylinder type (maybe hers is a newer model, we purchased in August this year)
