I have the $2000 AR's 3 of them! and the $1000 Ak and my go to is a Saiga .223

The whole aftermarket gas plug with a million settings is a joke, polishing all the guts of the gun is also unnessesary and IMO is just a ploy for smiths to make money. I had a 2001 saiga 12 with no work on it. Left it on setting 1 and it ran any kind of loads with no problems. Unless you have one of the "vodka specials" no work should need to be done. AGP's or factory mags are the only ones really gtg.

they started have a lot of QC issues between 2007-2009, so anything in that time period will more than likely need to be well tuned. Mine is an 08 model and it was one of the unlucky ones, but after being tuned, it runs like a champ!

I had to send mine to get the gas ports drilled out.(vodka special) came with 1 and half.... after that it runs through everything perfect. Have any of you noticed an difference with the aftermarket gas plug, other then looking "cool" I dont see what the fuss is about? Anyway off to the Reno gun show tomorrow to try and get some tacticool accesories for her!

If your S12 is cycling EVERYTHING on setting 1 it is definitely overgassed. If its shooting light loads as well as high brass, buckshot and slugs on the same setting as the light birdshot it is beating the hell out of the rear trunnion. It simply does not need that much gas to cycle strong loads.

NO.... 1 is HOT Loads/High Base Brass 2 is light loads/ Low base brass...

If you were shooting 00Buck and it was jamming, it was probably the gas holes (vodka special). When i first got mine, the holes were not drilled all the way through, so i sent it to cadiz gun works for warranty. Otherwise it should be shooting fine as long as your using decent mags. I have over a thousand rounds without cleaning and my Saiga 12 shoots everything. They are great shotguns and very reliable. They are well worth the $$ and I want another one and i already own 3
Heres my baby, i love this shotgun. Its light with the moe stock and oem handguard and its a fast shooter. I can pop off 9shots in 2 seconds.

The Saiga 12 10 rounders from Surefire are terribad (follower flops back and forth, creating stove pipes), but very good mags in 7.62x39. I have a few other mags that do a pretty good job though. I had to drill out the gas ports to get proper function with light loads fyi.

On a side note, I threw my Eotech 553 onto my Saiga 12 when shooting clays with my brother over the weekend, and it was like I had Aimbot on

Its fine to leave it on setting 1.

I think the time was more 07/08, the ones that came in right before the drought when izhmash retooled, and importation stopped. stock guns were going for like 7-800. Anyway, the "vodka specials" are the guns that came in in 07/08 with all sorts of ****ed up gas ports, like only having 2 ports drilled, or having the gas block cover some of the ports. Not all of the 07/08 guns were like that, but a large amount were. My 01 ran like a champ. It was so old it was actually an EAA import.
