Just picked mine up from purgatory today. Seems solid. The palm area seems a little on the thin side for my liking but not too bad and I already planned on putting a mesa tactical stock on it anyways.

You guys crack me up. There is NOTHING wrong with the Hawk. I have had mine over 5 years ,shot at least a thousand rounds thru it,probably a whole lot more. I bought mine originally for a tactical shot gun class (not shotty) knowing it was gonna get beat.It did and I have not had a problem one with it.I live where you bring your shotgun with you wherever you go and it is the one I bring and use.It is sitting in my truck right now.I can tell you it is NOT an 870. Don't fool yourself into thinking that is what it is. I own at least one of each Rem,Win,Moss, sold the Moss because the safety will eat your thumb if you hip shoot it,did mine anyway. BTW the Rem has the dimples in the mag tube too. They are all great shotguns and I would suggest owning them all like me .If you can get an 870 for the same price get it you can always get a big 5 anything anytime IMO. I just retired my 870 wingmaster I bought at a pawn shop Years ago (it is a 1953).It was used for trap and who knows what before NOT because it was worn out but because I scored an 870 Competition Trap .(1984). I guess what I'm saying is go for it .Whatever you decide. It won't be your last shotgun .Believe me. Just go for it.

The IA Hawk 982 is a shotgun manufactured by NORINCO under a different handle (we can all thank Klinton for that).

IMO, the IA is a superb shotgun for the price and quality that you get for your money. I would personally go for a maverick 88 (again), but the IA Hawk is definitely no Hi-Point handgun in terms of cheapness = low quality.

I put an ATI Top Folding Stock for the Remington 870 on my 982. There is a slight gap between the receiver and the stock but that doesn't bother me. Once I tightened the stock, it hasn't moved and that's been over five years and after many shots. I did have to grind down the stock to fit the ghost ring sight though.

I concur with Twotap. You'll most likely own more than 1 shotgun in your life. I'm currently down to one but had 5 at one time. Sold the rest becuz of the recession. For $200 U cant really go wrong with the 982.

I don't have a 982, with that said, my only concern would be parts availability if/when something breaks. It sounds like there's a lot of after market stuff that will fit so replacement parts may not be an issue. I have an 870 Express magnum, Mossberg 500 and a "Ted Williams edition Sears and Robuck" 20 gauge. ALL of them have plastic followers. I have 3 other shot guns that don't have plastic followers, One is my side by side, (smart *****, I know) also my Remington model 11 and my Winchester model '87. Point is, there's plastic used on a lot of things since around the 80's. Even if this 982 does have plastic inside, it's obvious that a bunch of people here have used them for a long time, for $200 you can buy 2 and keep one as a back up when the first one breaks. It actually sounds like a GREAT self defense gun, when the police take it after a shoot, it won't hurt so bad. Could also be great "trunk gun."
