Ok, so I think I have decided to go with the Big 5 Shotty that they have discounted from time to time for a really good price. From the research i have done I can fit most Remington 870 upgrades to it. I mainly want something that I can make look mean little by little like a new folding stock and pistol grip. Any problems with fitting Remington parts on these shotguns? I have the option of getting a new Maverick 88 for $249.00, a Hawk 982 for $199.00 or a used Remington 870 for $200.00, Best choice?

I think I will keep an eye on the sales the next month or so and save some money to get something worth the money.Comment

I just called my local Gunshops and found a new Maverick for $249.00 and a used Remington for $200.00. Any thought's on entertaining these deals?Comment

That's just pure bunk. Why do people on the Interwebs just make stuff up?Originally posted by professionalcoyotehunterthere are lots of internal plastics on it that break.
The 982 is built like a tank.
OP, don't bother adding a lot of 'tacticool' junk all over it. That just turns an inexpensive shotgun into an expensive one.
Just enjoy it for what it is, an inexpensive shotgun that works well and has ghost ring sights for those longer distance shots.Comment

The internals on my 982 look and feel like metal. However the magazine follower is an orange plastic, but I'm sure that's pretty common.Originally posted by professionalcoyotehunterBuy the Mossberg 500. the 870's are great but I wouldn't go as cheap as the hawks. there are lots of internal plastics on it that break.Comment

the only plastic internal part in my hawk 982 that i know of is the mag follower.
the 982 is a great deal for a shotgun and the GRS is very nice. Get it OPWTB: Yugo 7.62x39, 22lr, Finnish M28/39

Just picked up the Hawk at Big 5 for $200 and added a M4 6 position stock w/pistol grip for another $65. The guns looks bad *** and has ghost ring sights to boot. The only problem was I could not trade out the forearm grip as it is welded to the pump mechanism, otherwise I'd have a forward vertical grip and 3 sets of rails to really have fun with. Not bad for $270 all in. It seem built like a tank tooComment
