back in the 70's, it was that we lost to japan, even though they surrendered because they made everything, then taiwan, and korea, now china, and we ship our "customer service", to india, or the phillipines. everyone "wants" to do something about it, but nobody wants to do something about it.

That may be a CG first!

No, my point was, if you 'need a weapon light' there is no need to buy a knockoff. It works, and it's the 'real thing' rather than something that who knows if it'll stand up to a .22 rifle recoil.Sadly you are correct. For not a whole lot more money those guys can get a mil-spec tube that is American made and I bet it wouldn't rattle around like a rattle snake in a pillow case like I am sure that stock set does.
You are missing the point. Nobody is searching for a weapon light. I have plenty. The point is if people are in the market for them beware of the knock offs. By the way, they are even knocking off the lower end Surefire's as well. Mounts, rails, switches, optics. Everything is getting knocked off. This post was more of a buyer beware. Not a "why not" discussion. The market is getting flooded with knock offs that just buying lower end Surefire G2's and Streamlight C4's isn't going to avoid it. You still run the risk of getting hit by one of these counterfeiters if you buy a mount. Or if you buy a red dot. My post was to get guys thinking.
I bought the G2 because it was a really good flashlight for a good price. You really can't do better than that, new. Granted I purchased an (american made) aftermarket LED light and some (chinese) batteries, and turned my 35 dollar light into a 65 dollar light, I know it works and won't melt on me.
You do have to admit though, the batteries kind of suck and need to be at least rechargeable.Comment

You can do a lot better than the G2 in terms of a light. The G2 is not a weapon light. It is a hand held light that you put into a mount and augment it to fill the role of a weapon light. For duty the G2 offers a poor beam, a poorly executed tail cap design, no factory tape switch and 80 lumen's for an LED. The new G2X from Surefire seems to fix most of the original G2 led's flaws but even then if you are looking for a weapon light you should really just buy a dedicated weapon light. The beams are designed to give you more reach. As well as having tape switches (if you are using them on a rifle). This is where the problem starts. The counterfeiters are not making knock off Surefire G2's. They are making knock offs of the higher end lights. Because that is where the profits are. A G2 cost $50 bucks. The margins are too low. But a Surefire M300C cost over $400 dollars. They can make a knock off of that light for less than $20 bucks, sell thousands of them to distributors world wide, who then turn around and sell them for hundreds of dollars, some listing them as "factory sealed Surefire M300C" lights. The solution to the problem is simply to not buy any more high end Surefire's. When you have a thorn in you leg you don't cut off your leg. There is a market for the higher end weapon lights because mounting lower end hand held lights to fill the role of weapon lights is not the solution for everyone. Some people need (and want) the higher end, higher quality, dedicated weapon lights.
Besides that, it is not just lights getting counterfeited. Nearly every popular firearm accessory is being counterfeited, imported and sold on websites and ebay every day. Including things like knock off Vltor G mount, knock off DD offset flashlight mount and knock off LT606 QD mounts all mounts designed to hold a Surefire G2 flash light. All being counterfeited.
