Most of the pictures are of 870's and they last so long they still look like that after a few thousand rounds. So you can't really tell the round count on one. You can on the cheaper weapons out there. As for that AI&P Tactical in the pictures, it has a few thousand round through it. Don't know about the others.

thanks for clearing up the tapper -v - Chamfer. I have heard the word but had no idea how it was spelled and was uncertain of the exact meaning. Since others may be in the same boat as me, I will continue to use Tapper. Just like in my How to Video's, I don't use my armorer tools in those. I use tools that most any guy would have in his tool box.

the bolt doesn't really rub on the receiver so yea... over 3k rounds on my 870 and the bolt still looks good althought, not quite as good as those in the picture

My new 870P with walnut furniture has a square face on the right lateral face of the extractor. I'll call Remy, see about getting a tapered replacement.

Glad this heads up is helping some guys. the issue is minor as the scratch can only go so deep. But damn it man, they should get their act together. For what these weapons cost a minor issue becomes a big deal in my book. Good luck getting the cubical clown to understand the issue and better luck getting a new extractor that is not the same as the one that it is in. Still, call and complain. Each customer complaint is logged on the computer by the cubical clown. As these complaints build up, someone will then look at the issue and it may get corrected.

Thanks for the heads up JD. Believe me, I'm calling them first thing Tuesday.

I got to say, I'm kind of' disappointed with my purchase. This is the second quality issue/problem I've had with my Remington 870P.

This is the same 870 that was having extraction issues, and I sent back in for warranty service. I was going to go to test fire it, and post an update in my other thread. Looks like I'm going to wait until I swap the extractors.

I'm getting turned off to shotguns. I bought this 870 for self-defense, but I'm starting to second guess my choice. I'm thinking of just using this sucker to shoot clays now.

Anyhow, sorry for the rant, and thanks for the heads-up!!!!

Don't be sorry. The thing about this weapon or any 870 is that they need rounds through them. The extraction issue could have been resolved with a polishing and if not then a light honing. The weapon will smooth out with round count. I believe if you get the correct extractor and then a few hundred rounds through it you will be pleased. Remember these weapons last a life time when cared for properly so a new one starts out a little tight. Break in is important and round count ensures all the parts in the action smooth out. Mine are slicker then eel snot. If the extraction issue is not corrected send me a PM and I will tell you how to fix this very easy.

Thanks again JD. Hopefully they can get me the part by next week, and I'll post a follow-up after my range trip.

Anyone able to post a pic of the extractors with the issues? I've had a few extraction issues with my 870. I think it was purchased in '05. Does this problem go back that far?

                      Thanks!

It would not cause and extraction issue as it has little to do with extraction other then at first it would be dragging slightly on the receiver, after a few rounds as it will scratch into the receiver. It is a recent issue that started about the time the "Anoited One" was elected and the gun world went nuts. The tapper, or Chamfered as the machine guys call it, is there to conform with the roundness of the breech bolt. I am guessing that this is a vendor part and either a new vendor was being used or another one to help keep up. Not sure and can't get an answer. but your Pre-Obama guns are fine, no wait it must be George Bush's fault like everything else according to Obama.

Calishine - let us know if it is the same extractor you had. I my last order of 30 had some correct ones in it so the issue may be ending. Maybe my griping got action.

Since I am no kind of pro when it comes to this---I assume that a basic Express model will come with a MIM part.

There is nothing inherently wrong with MIM and it helps keep costs down right? I honestly don't know what the deal is because I see a lot of people making fun of Kimber for MIM MSHs, for example.

Yes, it does keep cost down and does not effect quality. I have never seen a MIM extractor fail, get dull or inway not be duty ready. The same guys that claim they won't buy and Express because it has MIM parts and they will only buy the 870 are showing their ignorance as there are MIM parts in the 870P same as every 870. I upgrade my custom shotgun with the two parts that come in the P that do that come in the Express. That is the solide steel extractor and one small spring. I do this becuase these parts come in the P and once I parkerize the weapon and change those two parts out, yep, you guessed it.

purchasing my 3rd one here pretty soon and I'm trying to decide if I want to go with a custom setup by maybe AI&P to avoid the issues of the new cheap guns.

I'm all for for keeping costs down (as the consumer) and if the MIM part is just as reliable, there is no issue for me. So good news overall. Thanks.
