If you have an 870 made in the past few years and have a solid steel extractor, the next time you clean it and have the breech bolt assembly out please check this. Look at your extractor and see if it is tappered. It should be tappered on the top to conform to the curve of the breech bolt. You will see what I am talking about the second you look at it. Next check the inside of your receiver and look for a scratch located at the back of the ejection port.
If you see this scratch your extractor may not be tappered correctly. You may see a light scratch cause by the slide but you can figure with part is causing it by the location of the scratch. I buy these 30 to 50 at a time and they have been comming to me squared off. I have to manually tapper them to prevent them from scratching the receiver. this takes time. I complain but they keep comming to me like this.
I am wondering how many guys have this issue, so I asking.
This started back during the Obama gun rush and has not been corrected. If you find the issue on your weapon a call to Remington about the scratch and requesting the correct extractor get you a new one that is correctly tappered. Not sure as I can seem to get one made correctly and I buy a couple of hundred a year. This is not an issue with the MIM extractors only the solid steel ones.
