Mossberg 590 Questions

Does this Mossy shotgun Model#50660 come with optional Ghost Ring sights? Or do you have to add the sights?

The Mossberg 590A1 comes with ghost ring sights and will run you around $519. The one in your picture there is the 590, it is the civilian "value" version (probably around $379) and has just a standard bead sight, a glossier finish, and is lighter.

The A1 is standard USMC issue, parkerized, ghost rings, and a little bit heavier duty.

The heavy duty barrel doesn't need a heat shield because it's heavy duty?

But if you want the heat shield for aesthetics, I'm sure you could have the ghost rings installed on the civvy 590. It may run you a bit of change for installation unless you're comfortable doing it yourself. And the sights themselves can be had on e-bay for about $65, not sure what they'd cost direct from Mossberg. As to there being a civvy model with the sights already factory installed, there is not.

Its your money so by all means get what you like, but the A1 is far and away a better shotgun. I'm inclined to think that the vast majority of shotguns don't have heat sheilds and their owners make it through countless range sessions unscathed. I can't recall whether the barrel on my A1 gets hot enough to be bothersome, but that in of itself should tell you how vital a heat sheild is.

Again, its your scratch and I know what its like to be set on something. Just some info for you to think about.

They are both nice shotguns, but as Stage 2 said, I'd take the A1 out of the two hands down. It's got a little better feel (at least in my hands) because of the added weight, and those ghost rings are delightful. With a heavy barrel like that you'd be hard pressed to really heat it up, and then, what would you be doing touching the barrel anyway? But if you're set on the 590, it is nice, I've shot them extensively without issue, just depends on which one suits your fancy.

Where are you located? Get your hands on both, shoot them if you can, but at least handle them and pump the action a few times, you'll get a feel for the difference.

The front sight needs to be silver soldered which will ruin the finish on the barrel and the rear needs to be drilled and tapped onto the reciever. Unless you have the equipment and are competent in doing something like this I would have a gunsmith do it. If you have your heart set on ghost rings I would suggest the 590A1. The extra money you would have spent on installation and refinishing could have gone for the A1.

I have the A1. They don't come from the factory with both heatshield and ghost rings, but you can get an aftermarket ghost ring sight installed on the one with the heatshield.
I wanted to get a heatshield on my A1, but the desire has passed. I don't need it. The barrel does get hot, but I'm gripping the forearm, not the barrel.

Also, I got my 590A1 for $500 with tax and DROS.

I also just got a 590A1....The biggest reasons the 590a1 is a lot better than the regular 590 is the whole trigger area and the safety are metal and not plastic like the 590....Heat shields can be done on the 590a1....Search google images....There are people with pics of heat shields on them....Im not sure how they did it but anything is possible....BTW: I love the 590a1 so far...its a true zombie killer...

Isn't there a 590 that came with a speedfeed stock? IIRC the finish is flat? All I see from Big5 is the glossy finish one with no speed feed stock.

The indoor shooting range in brea has the flat finished 590 with speedfeed stock...It does exist but doesnt have ghost rings...
