bretta it is a gas gun less felt recoil .
Benelli is not a bad gun either.
    Beretta owns benelli now.

Beretta is softer shooting, especially with the new KO recoil reduction system. The Benellis are inertia driven, but still rely on recoil to do the work. Generally the Benellis runs cleaner, but kick more. There are more shooters using Beretta 391's then Benelli.

Try these guys they carry a good selection of both, and they are world class shooters there: http://www.pacificsportingarms.com/

      My personal auto is 2 Rem 1100 12ga and 1 391 20ga. I shoot the 1100 way more tho !!!

Beretta 3901 for clays. Soft shooting system which aids in follow up shots (pairs).
Benelli M1 for storming a known combatant structure. Benellis shine in reliability, but with a tough kick due to the inertia (read blowback) action.

I'm a shotgunner and my life changed when I got my first Benelli in 1992 and I haven't looked back since. Benelli's shoot much softer with their Comfort Tech stock recoil reducing system and it is as good as it gets and reliability and ease of maintenance is unmatched. That said, Beretta has been making fine semi-autos for a long time now and if you want to pay the bucks, their newest Xplore 400 with the kick-off recoil system is a very soft shooter. I've owned 2 Brownings, 1 S&W, 2 Rem 1100, Rem 11-48 and 4 Benelli's. My current shotgun inventory is my original HK/Benelli SBE(18 yo), a Benelli Vinci and a 20 ga. Rem 1100G3.The 2 Browning A500 were junk as was the S&W 1000 Waterfowler. The Benelli's and the 1100's, bought the first 1100 in 1974, have never given me one problem. I shoot everything from doves to geese with skeet and sporting clays in the off season with my Benellis and sold a nice O/U so I could get their new Vinci and I love it, a real soft shooter...looking forward to dove season now.
My vote is Benelli...if it makes a difference.

I give the nod to the Benelli too. The least amount of maintenance, most reliable, works in the worst conditions, lightest weight, easiest to field strip should you need to.

Beretta's would be my second choice more maintenance than a Benelli, heavier, softer shooting, more to deal with should you have to strip it in the field.

Benellis come with shims for the stock to adjust the drop of the stock I don't know if Beretta's do.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

100% legal. I would go with the Benelli too, very nice and high quality.

I apologize but I should have been more clear when I asked the question. Is the Benelli M4 with the pistol grip legal or does it have to be the model without the pistol grip?

Here is the exact model that I am talking about...

For clay sports...go with the Beretta. They are soft shooting guns and can cycle 1 oz loads. I have shot clays with buddies who shoot Benelli's and they have more jams than any gun out there. It appears that the inertia system does not cycle light loads very well. When you are shooting a couple hundred rounds a day, it makes for a long day when your gun isn't cycling.

I would also stick with the Beretta for hunting. Throw a 3.5" mag shell in a Benelli and it feels like your fillings rattle. Beretta has less felt recoil than the Benelli due to it's recoil systems and it may be a little bit heavier which will also reduce felt recoil.

The Beretta does not need to be cleaned as much as you might think. I shoot between 3K-5K rounds between cleanings of my Urika and I never have jams or malfunctions. Stripping a Beretta is a bit more labor intensive compared to the Benelli but I have never had to field strip mine. Reliability has never been an issue with my Beretta.

Yes, that is the Benelli 11707 and is legal with the pistol grip. You just can't add a collapsible stock.

My Benelli Vinci shot 1oz loads out of the box and hasn't failed to eject after about 300 rounds so far. It has a pretty soft recoil with the comfort tech stock. There are several Benelli models that function with the light 1oz loads.

I agree my benelli sbe2 shoots 1oz rounds as well with zero problems. I've shot well over 500 clays with zero malfunctions. But there both nice shotguns

That is unusual for an SBEII to handle 1oz loads...my 19yo HK/SBE still won't shoot them and it is well broken in. Cool though.
