Another one for benelli. Used a friend's in a few steel matches. Recoil is non-existent with proper technique and a basic recoil pad. Shot around 200 rounds the first time, no shoulder discomfort. As I got better, the round counts started dropping and cheek slap was eliminated. Benellis are damn fast and extremely light, yet have very little recoil. When I do get a semi-auto it will be a Benelli M1 Super 90 based on my experiences with it. Great gun.

In general, the Beretta will shoot softer since it's not inertia operated.

I would agree with others, Beretta's semi-auto dominates the clay range.

        For everything else: Benelli.

I prefer Benelli due to the slimmer profile. It fits me better since I find Beretta's receiver to be a bit wider than I prefer.

I have both. When I go shooting (usually clays) I always grab the Beretta extrema. I like the way it feels and shoots.

I also have a Maxus and just sold my 1100. The way I see it is each person will have their preference. The Maxus, Beretta, and Benelli are all excellent guns and I have never had a problem with any of the three.

I have owned and shot an AS390T and M1 Super 90 for well over 15 years now. The only mis feeds I have ever had with my benelli were with low base trap loads. Other then that, I have never had an issue's with either. Probably shot more then 5000 rnds each through both.

The feel of each is very different but are easy to shoot. Recoil has never been an issue for me from either. Both are very comfortable to shoot.

Cleaning of the Beretta is a chore. Not fun at all. Basically comes down to more moving parts. The Benelli is a piece of cake to clean. They got it right when they designed the weapon.

I use my 390 for upland only now and the M1 Super 90 for waterfowl. The 390 has a 26" barrel and the M1S90 has a 28". The Beretta feels alot quicker to shoulder and fits my style for upland better the the Benelli. The Benelli shoots very well over Decoys. I think it makes me slow my shots down so I can be on target more often, IMO.

I think it comes down to what feels right for you and what makes you happy in the end.

              Best of Luck!!

Benelli gets my nod for general hunting because of it's simple field maintenance. For clays and upland I use Beretta Silver Pigeons (12 gauge SP III 28" and 20 gauge SP II 26-1/2"). For me clays just seems more fun with an O & U and they are dead simple to maintain and rarely malfunction. And they are lighter for tramping around the back country up hill and dale. I like the fact I can have two chokes. If you need more than 2 shots at clays, you need more practice.
