just an opinion but a very knowledgeable one.

if you are determined to sell one to get another, by all means sell the browning. DO NOT TRADE IT.

there is always a market for the browning and it carries a 25% higher resale value than the baretta or virtually any other standard shotgun. will it be right now as you are wanting since you are impatient? maybe, maybe not but it will sell and for more.


the baretta is a good choice, because its an auto. all autos have much more manageable recoil than, any pump, ou, or single shot.

just not sure if it is a good choice for her. you really need to find a place for her to shoot one and especially hold it up for a couple of hours.

don't get in a rush.

i will guarantee you will regret selling the browning one day so keep that in mind.

you may also want to look at the used market for the baretta urika or even another another baretta model that she may like equally well, of find out the baretta is not for her and she likes a benelli, h&k or another brand.

my main concern at this time would be getting her to try as many different shotguns as possible and find one that fits. not just jumping from one to another.

on another note.

having a wife that was a comp trap shooter for many years i would like to point out women and men are built differently. my wife's trap gun was made with an adjustable butt pad that was raised about 1 1/2 inches higher than it would be on a man.

my wife first learned this by shaving the curve of the pad to a flat surface and mounting it upside down. this prevented a brusied breast and scrape from bra strap clip that was located under the pad in shooting position.

she also sewed a double layer of rubber computer mousepad into her vest as a recoil cushion.

she not only shot extremely well this way but taught many women in her classes to do the same thus bringing many new shooters to the sport.

make it fun, comfortable and make all of your decisions with her input as a your main requirement

The feather Brownings were never meant to be a sporting clays gun. It was meant to be carried for a whole day out in the field. It would be very tough to try and put a recoil reducing device and call it a sporting clays gun. As you quoted Joe/Paul saying "You can glue feathers on a rubber duck but it still wont fly".
Try to find somebody with a Beretta to shoot and see how that works out. Gun fitment is very important but you gotta have the right gun to fit to.

Looking at the gunbroker.com website, Browning Citori Feather Lightening O/U are selling for $1200-2000 depending on condition.
You might want to consider GunBroker as an avenue for selling and purchasing as they are a great place to judge values and to get very good pricing. I've completed 9 transactions without a hitch

Gunbroker is definately a great resource, but one quick glance shows the higher price ones are 525's, cynergy's & small gauge guns. The lightning feathers are the lower price ones. On top of it all the ONLY bid on ANYTHING is $1275 on a lightning feather !!!! And a quick sweep of Gunsamerica shows Lightning Feathers selling for $1400-$1600 ...

I am not knocking GB or GA as I have over 30+ transactions. But for GB & GA to work the deal has to be pretty good or it'll just sit there. To purchase from GB & GA is a little harder as the selling FFL has to file Cali paperwork for them to ship. Some of the FFL's don't/won't ship to Cali ...

Overall the choices are there for you to choose from. If you want to continue to enjoy shooting then you might not want to sit on the Browning coz it might take a while to sell. Whether the wait is worth the possible extra couple hundred of dollars is entirely up to you !!

Or as I suggested earlier ... Try selling it on CG.
