    SPAS 12 Shotgun

Give me your honest opinions on the SPAS 12.. I am picking up a brand new one tomorrow. Well its never fired and its a 1999 or 2000 model I think. Comes with box and everything.

well, since it is considered an AW in CA, I hope you are picking it up, and keeping it, in OR.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

If I get stationed in California it will be in California.

Thats not what I asked. I also read all the other threads on them but want new updated opinions since Jan10.

edit: and since the SPAS12 has been restricted in CA for over 20-years, there aren't that many of them floating around, so informed opinions about them may be hard to find.

For sure. I saw some of your posts about the shotgun and the weight issues but do you honestly think a late model brand new one is worth $1500?

I have wanted one since 1990 and now have the last year production model at my fingertips but have heard a lot of negatives and positives but from nobody that owns one..

IMO 1500$ is a steal for a rare gun like that. They probably were not cheap to begin with

I think the same thing. The owner told me $1500 cash or my FN FS2000 in trade. I would do either really.

But as compulsive says too parts are going to be expensive and rare. Thats why I am not sure if I want to pick it up. Would be so easy to trade the FN since I could always buy another one for $1800 new.

I know where there is one that is brand new and tricked our with some sweet factory accessories that the owner would totally swap for a fs2000

For craps & giggles they're great - Otherwise the SPAS 12 sucks - Heavy - Terrible pointability - Parts are a bit hard to find -

Is the one you're looking at have the recalled safety upgrade?

Its the last year production model and doesnt have that safety problem comes with a totally different safety switch.

If you've wanted one for two decades it's worth 1500 bucks.

My opinion is it's one of the coolest looking guns ever. Coolest looking.

You are so right. I have optics that cost more than this gun and the only thing holding me back is the parts if something breaks. Its my understanding that these arent being made along with parts. To me thats huge but being that its the last year model I may just say "what the heck" and buy it or trade for it.

Unless you are planning on using it as a hammer I don't see how they just spontaneously break. Most people who say they are not good guns probably never had one to begin with. And if a part breaks I bet you can buy one or have one made. What is there to break on it? the most is the firing pin hammer maybe the trigger or ejector. i had my Mossberg 500 for 15-16 years and its NEVER broken any parts. The spring finally got weak and I replaced it but I keep it loaded 99% of the time.
I always wanted a M14/M1 so i bought one. I had one when I was young and like a idiot got rid of it in the 2000 AWB when nobody nkew their azz from peanut butter. I recently bought another one. if you really always wanted one then go buy it. hell its not liek you are gonna have 9 lives. last I checked you only get one shot to play the game called life

I do not own one, but I have fired twenty or so shells through one. The "cool" factor is very high, but the guy who owned it did say parts are hard to find and expensive. Prior to shooting his I had been thinking about buying one, but after that, my desire to own a SPAS dropped significantly. I did not like the folding stock. I found it awkward; I like mesa tactical enidine systems or a regular fixed stock more. Overall, I prefer Saigas and Benellis.

However, if you want one, go for it. The pool of 'new in box' SPAS shotguns have to be getting smaller and smaller and the demand for them seems to stay constant.
