        what is that bead sight.

really good opinions and that is what I want to hear. I dont want heavy. I want practical. I do need to change stock so both of us can use it. that is my primary concern. second would be light.

I dont think i need ghost ring so I will try reg sight first than decide.

Upgrades for the 870 and any weapon for that matter is........operator skill first and foremost. Than you can see what YOU are really lacking.

.............and thats all the sidesaddles, lights, stocks, sights and gizmo's you can add on that make it 18lbs instead of ~8

true. good point. mainly somebody else will be shooting it so pistol grip and stock is first.

5150, check out Vang's new sidesaddle setup. The plate has velcro and is cut out to reveal the serial # (something the others require removal for). The adjustable stock for two shooters is very practical. Unless you have a nuclear powered optical sight (Trijicon) I'd leave the battery powered optics to the 3 gun competitors. Besides who want to remember to turn their sights on under stress? Yea, yea, I know the military uses battery powered optics, but they also have scheduled maintenance and logistics support and work in teams.

When I first got my 870 Marine Magnum I installed and Surefire forend and Knoxx SpecOps stock on it for HD:

However, after a few years, the add-ons seemed less necessary and I much preferred the grip of a standard stock verus a pistol grip stock. Here's how it's configured today:

I had a Knoxx SpecOps on my 870 SM and hated it. it gave me some nasty cheek rosies. you learn to not look down the sight with one of those things! if anyone wants it, I'll sell it for 80 TYD =)

I've only shot a few dozen rounds with the SpecOps, and my initial experience was similar to yours. I thought that with more time I could adapt or learn to work with it , but then I figured that the price and need to adapt are too much to put out for the limited benefits. The polymer standard stock (in my case with the Hawk 982) works fine for my purposes.

And I agree- for close in shooting the ghost ring sights aren't necessary. But then they don't get in the way either, don't cost extra (with the Hawk), and are useful for shooting further out, so although I probably wouldn't put out cash to add them, as part of the standard Hawk package I like 'em!

                        very nice Boss!

Frank, thanks for your opinion. I dont want to buy stuff than have the same experience as someone here.

So, I would need collapsable stock...., what is alternative that is comfy for wifey other than specops knoxx?

                        thanks.
