Have you looked an Ithaca 37? I bought a beautiful one used from Krausewerke, and I love it!
No government deprives its citizens of rights without asserting that its actions are "reasonable" and "necessary" for high-sounding reasons such as "public safety."
A right that can be regulated is no right at all, only a temporary privilege dependent upon the good will of the very government
officials that such right is designed to constrain.

i would also look into the Mossy 500 b/c the 870 has the damn feed lip - in a HD situation loading the gun in a daze of sleep late in the night when you hear something go bump downstairs, unless really trained it is a pain to load that pump - mossy does not have that piece - IMO mossy is also easier to clean after a long day

in re: to the whole mall ninja thing: I don't get it!?!? have none of you CalGunners taken a HD shotgun class?? 1) it is a mandatory to get a good reliable light mounted to it. 2) having a sling will keep that gun on your person vs. puting it down or something like that (you want the Bad Guys' homie picking it up after you shoot him and start calling cops thinking its over?) 3) having a side saddle will give you access to more ammo right on the gun - your choice of slugs, buck or something less lethal like bean bag or rubber shot

I know some of you older shooters think thats all mall ninja'd out - I politely disagree - shooting @ a range, skeet or steel these parts will add weight but I like to practice how I will shoot in a bad situation - I hope this can help any1 making these important decisions

I have my 870 now, simple no side saddle or sling, purely HD with bead. Reliable and feeds anything I put into it.

I had a Winchester 1300. A couple of things it had going for it. It was cheaper, light in weight, LOP was perfect for me and the action was smooth. I liked it but just liked the 870 better. The 870 just felt solid.

Back to the LOP, I have yet to find that sweet comfortable feel with the 870 when i mount it to my shoulder. 12" is too short and the standard 14"(?) is a bit long. I have a knoxx spec ops on the way with an adjustable length of pull and I hope that solves my problem.

Best of luck to you in finding the pump you want/need.
