Mossberg 500 need help with forearm

ok guys bought this mossberg 500 from big 5 got the speical so got the 2 barrels but bought a tac set up and dont know how the forarm fits on or how to get the 2 slides that push the bolt back out and on the new one since the new forarm doesnt have any slots for them

help will be great thanks all

The new Mossberg 500A's don't have removable forearms like the older ones do.

I am going through this SAME thing. If you're looking to put a new forend on the 500A you need to purchase a new Action Tube Assembly. I have a Mako picatinny forend that I'm attemtping to put onto my shotgun at the moment I had to contact both the vendor, Mako and Mossberg to try and sort it all out. I've done a ton of research and it appears that the 6 5/8" short action assembly part #12362 (old part #14455PS) is the right one. Also you will need to purchase a new tube nut which is part number #13488.

Again, I JUST purchased these today, so I cannot confirm that they are the proper parts...but from all that I gather from CalGus, Mossberg and Mako this appears to be the proper one.

The 500 Special from Big5 uses the Maverick 88 forend which is one part. Note that this is the ONLY 500 that has this. Other 500s still have two parts, unlike what wilit has said (my 500 Persuader that I bought from Big5 is two parts).

UPDATE:

I purchased a 6 5/8" slide from Mossberg so that I could install my aftermarket forend, it was too short. I had a 50/50 chance of ordering the right one and what do you know...it wasn't long enough. Back to the drawing board, I am almost certain that it is the 7 5/8" slide that I need.

Unbelieveable, I purchased the Knoxx Spec Ops Coil Suppression butt stock with forend only NOT to be able to install the forend. I now find this thread and am pissed!

I finished up my shotgun yesterday. If you're thinking of a Mako or Hogue forend replacement you will need to pick up the 7 3-4" action slide assembly and tube nut to retrofit it.

On my Mossberg 500 I used the 6-3/4'' with the Houge forend

I used a Hogue as well, but the 6 3/4" wasn't long enough. I also have a Mako/FabTech picatinny forend that wasn't able to use the shorter action tube either.

No idea, you'd need to call and ask them the measurements or if they know EXACTLY what size action slide assembly should be used with it.

I just installed that knoxx special ops kit on my moss 500a. What a pain in the ***. The stock was easy to install but the forend did not fit. I had the 7 5/8 action tube slide and forend nut. Everything removed easy but the new knoxx forend does not fit. I had to grind out the inside of the forend with a grinder and cut the tab on the top side off to spread the forend apart to get the nut to thread on wthout cross threading. Horrible. I called the mgr and they sent me a new on but it was exactly the same. It does not fit on this big 5 moss HD 18inch barrel 8 shot shotgun. Then after all that work I used the gun in a training class just to find out the recoil in the stock ends up hitting you in the cheek bone. After 100 rounds of that u have a black eye. I read the reviews and it sold me. I'm looking for a new one. I love the shotgun. Hate the knoxx stock.

You're the first person I've seen to knock the Knoxx stock. Interesting. I personally went with a Mesa Tactical telescoping stock kit that I picked up from TacticalShotgunner.com and paired it with a Hogue overmold forend, Mesa top picatinny rail and a 6 shotshell holder. Looking to pick up a cheap optic to finish it off or perhaps ghost ring sights.

You can have the smaller action tube but you will have to get a extended action tube nut. Also a action tube nut wrench. I cut down a piece of flat stock to fit the two grooves in the nut instead of buying the wrench. That might have been the problem I was having by not using the tool but I doubt it. My action slide tube goes all the way to the end of the barrel.
