Default Mossberg 500 forearm tube

So i have the cheap Mossberg 500a from Big 5, and i'd like to replace the integrated sliding tube assembly from the "normal" Moss 500 so that I can put a forward pistol grip on the thing

Anyone for some recommendations on where the best/cheapest place to buy this part is?

Thanks,

Ting

nope, i got it at the cow palace show....thinking i could just drop it right in, well at least that's what the vendor told me...I had a feeling it wasn't a drop in and go type of deal (looking at the tube....)...but he assured me it was totally compatible with the mossberg 500

well as long as the action tube part works i guess im back in business =)

There was a thread about this a while ago. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ad.php?t=77736

The action slide you have is from a Maverick. Apparently Mossberg equipped a bunch of their 500A combos with them. If you look at post 38 of the thread, Mossberg basically told to OP, "too bad" when looking to exchange it with a non-integrated Mossberg slide.

ah bummer, that is the forend i have (the maverick one) no wonder, I couldn't for the life of me figure out where the nut was for the action slide, and the part i have is totally different from the schematic.....so i guess i HAVE to buy a new action slide tube in order to mount that forend i bought (and get the right length tube.....

thanks for the info!

I read on some forum that mossberg makes the 500a combo shotguns special for Big 5 so they can sell them cheaper now I know how - but using maverick parts.

It just goes to show the old saying you get what you pay for is still true.

Arghh! Why do I only find these threads AFTER buying a gun! So I have the cheap action slide assembly as well.... Did anyone shell out the $60 for the one on e-gunparts.com? How did it fit/work? If I have an aftermarket 8" forend do I buy part #53170A?

AND I have to buy the nut, what a PITA....

Does it ride over the existing mag tube with no problems? What about scratching the mag tube?

I realize that this is an old thread, but I am having the same issue and still have some questions. I have a Mossberg 500A with the "new" forend. My question is how do I know if I need the 7 3/4" or 6 3/4" action slide tube? Not quite sure how to measure because the "new" forearm with the slide bars as part of the forearm doesn't really help. I realize that many people here have installed the 7 3/4" version, but I read a comment on THIS site indicating that Mossberg Shotguns manufactured in the last 20 years use the 6 3/4" action slide tube. Can anyone help me out with this one? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken

I took a chance and ordered the 7 3/4" slide tube assembly made by ProMag at Cheaper Than Dirt HERE. The user ratings on CTD were about right (3 out of 6). It is not the best quality, but did the job and came with the nut. I was installing a Knoxx Spec Ops recoil reducing stock and fore end. The new magazine tube was a TIGHT fit and I think that it was partially due to the Spec Ops stock. I used a Dremel with a flap-wheel sander to sand out the contact points on the forend to allow for a little more room for the slide tube assembly to fit (still very tight). Once installed, I had to work the action about a hundred times and keep re-lubing the action slide bars where they were obviously rubbing (you could see where they were wearing). Still not sure if it is a good a quality as the Mossberg, but it works. Hope someone else can use this info.
