        IMO

        Both the Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 are great shotguns. The Remington is a little heavier and feels more solid, my Mossberg has a little more play in the pump than you would think was necessary. After you start shooting the Mossberg you do feel that it is really a tough gun after all, and feeling a bit lighter does have its own advantages, plus you save yourself $100 or so.

        Both guns are reliable and won't let you down. I own a Mossberg 500 and think it is great, but really either of them are perfectly fine choices.
