Mossberg vs Remington

I like the features on the Mossberg but cant deny the durability on the 870. I have had mine for years and have had zero probs. Heard a couple stories about the Mossberg safety switch breaking. I think it was something to do with it being plastic or something. I'm actually looking at getting another 870 myself.

OMG this Mossy V.S. Remmy thread again, let me break it down to you, they're both reliable and your choice should boil down to how you want to mod it in the future.

Pistol grip = Remmy
Regular stock = Mossy

due to position of safety of course

I've owned a Mossberg and two Wingmasters. The express mdl's seem a bit rough to me. If I had to choose one I would find a wingmaster.

My advice would be to handle both of them and if any way possible find a way to shoot both of them. They're both good choices.

I like my Mossberg 500 w/ collapsible M4-style stock w/ PG because it was readily available for a small frame shooter like myself. When I started looking for a shotgun, I was kind of set on an 870. I handled various shotguns before I made my purchase, and I just couldn't find a Remmy 870 with a stock that fit me right out of the box. And, I don't see major quality differences between the Mossberg 500 and the 870 Express... Maybe if we compared the 500 or 870 Express to the 870 Wingmaster, I'd see drastic differences.

There is no comparison. The Remington is a quality shotgun and the mossburg is a total POS. A friend owns a big 5 mossburg and it jams more than it shoots.

dont know about the mossberg (so i am not going to say its garbage) but i have never very had a problem with my remington 870

funny, i have 2 mossbergs, and they have never failed to operate flawlessly. i have shot a couple thousand rounds through them, combined...

Chevy are better than Ford for so many reasons . . . wait, are we doing the 870 vs. 500 here? O well, same argument.

Both American made, the military used both, both indestructible and neither one will fail you. The biggest aspects (that no one else can decide for you) are slide release and safety locations. Pick both weapons up and see which one you like the slide release and safety on better and pick that one, it's as simple as that.

Am I saying that the 500 and 870 are exactly the same barring the SR and safety locations? No. I'll admit, my friend bought an 870 and I did find myself admiring the finish on his a lot. Dare I say, his even felt ever so slightly smoother? That being said though, I like the SR and safety on the Mossy 500 better, so I have a 500. I have NEVER had a 500 fail me.

I can't comment on the Remington, but in my experience, I didn't like the mossberg 500 at all. It just "felt" like a cheap plastic gun. I own a winchester model 1300, and I love it. It fits great and feels like a great solid gun. Smooth action, decent trigger, and better looking to boot. So IMHO, try and find a winchester, if you can't, get the remington.
