    Weatherby's New Side by Side

They are marketing it under the "Orion" name - ORION? SXS.

    MSRP $1099

I can't wait to see one.
Even though I prefer a beavertail forend over splinter and ejectors over extractors, I might get one. Have to see it and hold it first.
I'm interested in the 20 gauge model.

From their website, with my comments in color.

Weatherby is resurrecting the Orion name, again. They have used the name at least a couple of times in the past, but only for O/Us (I think). Previous generation Weatherby doubles had been manufactured by Zoli, Nikko, SKB, and ATA (and maybe others). I have no idea who is building the new ones, but I'd bet it's Turkish. There are some nice guns coming out of Turkey these days.

I?m an extractor guy, I hate picking up hulls off the ground. They?ve picked an interesting price point, would love to see one in person although I ended up getting a new 20 gauge already. What?s one more shotgun?. Right?

With the SxS's that I've had/have, I've been able to get the hulls as they come out of the ejector with my hand, so they don't hit the ground. I haven't mastered the art (or even tried) of catching them in the air after the ejectors have launched them.
I'm sure extractors will be fine.

7.3 pounds seems a bit portly.

You must not shoot sporting clays etc., one of the first things I figured out was how to catch the shells as they are coming out. Not a big deal even with a SxS.

I trust my CZ bobwhite more than a Weatherby. The Weatherby does have nice wood though.

They're Turk made, I think ATA. The nicest SxS they've sold, were the Stefano Fausti DEA line.

They look interesting. As I have gotten older I find I need more range than improved cylinder -- I'm not keeping up with the dogs as well as I used to -- and I'm getting tired of buying bismuth for my sxs.

It doesn’t look too nice. What do you expect for $1K? I have an 50 year ld engraved SKB proper that looks so much nicer. Nicer wood, nicer receiver, nicer engraving, nicer checkering, much nicer deep bluing. I’m shocked that Weatherby has something of this “quality.”

Looks good to me, I've been wanting to pick up a new SxS for cowboy action shooting, so extractors and splinter fore end work for me. But at $1100 bucks I'll probably just pick up a CZ that I know people can work on.
