I want to place a red dot on my shotgun (m3000 defense) that has ghost ring sights. Any recommendations on a red dot/mount combo that would give me a lower 1/3 co-witness view? There is already a factory pic rail on the shotgun that I can mount it to. Leaning towards Holosun 508 or 510 at the moment because I like the idea of patterning my load to the 32 or 64 MOA circle.

Not familiar with that shotgun, but Aridus Industries makes amazing mounts for shotguns. Just not sure if any of their current ones will fit yours:

I've got both the Eotech + Eotech 3x magnifier which w/the right height mount, I can also use w/my Aimpont. Here's the Eotech on my Remington 870.

The Aimpoint and Eotech 3x mag on my Vepr 12. After I took this pic, the 3X magnifier mount was switched to swing left out of the way 4 a "lefty".

The Stoeger M3000 Defense is a nice-looking shotgun. I'll have to do some research as to how well it works.
I can't answer the OP's co-witness question. If it was me, I'd consider an optic with a quick-release mount enabling the optic to quickly be removed should the optic go down for some reason.
I'd probably consider a Trijicon MRO first. If quick-release isn't wanted, Trijicon and the aftermarket also have a couple or few mounts with different heights which can clamp onto the Pic rail.

I tried red dots on my HD shotguns and eventually waved them off. I like my shotguns slick with very few stick outs with the exception of a side saddle. I am a minimalist at heart anyway.
Try a cheap RD and experiment with it. At least you'll know if it's right for you.
Ghost ring or rifle sights will do all the red dot will do inside of slug range IMO.Comment

I'm even more minimalist here... just the bead up front please.I tried red dots on my HD shotguns and eventually waved them off. I like my shotguns slick with very few stick outs with the exception of a side saddle. I am a minimalist at heart anyway.

Maybe it's the years of trap, but I feel most comfortable - and fastest to point - with just a bead.Comment

I'll add as an addendum to the above reference to the Trijicon MRO, that my Eotech/Aimpont purchases were a few years ago, and my next purchase of a RDS would probably be the Trijicon MRO which I think is a first rate RDS for a lot less money than the Eotech and Aimpoint.
Everybody is right as far as what works for them, cuz whatever makes you feel the most comfortable/relaxed is going to make you shoot better; that's if you've got good eyesight.
Until my implant surgeries, I needed my RDS not as toys, but as a necessity.
The Eotech is the most intuitive/no confusion sight, where as soon as you raise the firearm/sight to your eyes, at the inside the home distance for HD, you acquire that big circle/quickly place it just inside the torso/center mass. It's just a big window.
No confusion/momentary disorientation, boom.Last edited by SoftHeart; 07-15-2021, 10:38 AM.Comment

SoftHeart, do you shoot the shotgun far enough away that you need a magnifier? The furthest I shot my slugs was 50 yards, and at that distance a RDS was still plenty.

Anthracite
I own the property behind my house to the next street, which spans 75 yards, and more if you include the street.
I also have this gun/my other shotguns out in the "boondocks"/country where I don't intend on waiting until something threatening is on top of me, before I do something about it.
The Vepr 12 in the pic is my slug gun, the magnifier and RDS are there so I can put a slug "right on the money" at that kind of distance.
So the answer is yes, it's there if I need it, and the magnifier swings out of the way if I don't need it.
I've mentioned several times including the reference here about my implant surgeries, and the use of a red dot and a magnifier w/my eyesight being what it was, which assured that I'd put a slug "on the money".
Yes, my big head gets a perfect check weld on this rig just fine.
