Exactly what I was going to do. except I was going to use Clays. I have to visualize what the exact sight picture is for those birds. The birds can start out on edge but after I've got it down I will change them to horizontal like they would be in flight. There is a bunch of foliage behind the flight path from the low house sometimes I don't even pick the bird up until after it is past the center of the field and I'm already so far behind I should just save the round.Get 3 small safety cones.
If you can get a Skeet field when no one is using it... Place a cone at the center stake, one 4' to the right of it and one 4' to the left of it.
From each station hold your gun on the center cone and look at the cones to the left and right. These are your leads for the high and low houses. Actual lead does not change, just your perception of it changes.
Having the gun pointed just outside the low house should cure that problem.
Lots to suss out but I'm getting the hang of it.

The cones work extremely well, however you should also spend some time simply watching this video since we have this kind of access. This is how I get my 'snap shots' for establishing leads in skeet. Been quite a while for me, but every now and then I go back and watch this:I have to visualize what the exact sight picture is for those birds. Any particular station? Or all stations? There is a bunch of foliage behind the flight path from the low house sometimes I don't even pick the bird up until after it is past the center of the field and I'm already so far behind I should just save the round.

Your hold point should be about 1/3 out towards the center stake, slightly below the flight path. Your look point should be slightly to the house from the gun, on the flight path.
If you are not seeing the bird until after the center stake, perhaps:
A) You are looking in the wrong place.
B) Your glasses are too dark.
C) Your glasses are the wrong color for you.
Everyone's eyes are different. Wear the lightest tint possible and still be comfortable. Color is a different issue, how you see color and the background both come into play here. I usually use yellow a lens, with the foliage you may be better off with light purple. Finding the right lens is trial and error, but once you find the right color..."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"Comment

Yes it is a sin. Hold your muzzle up where the bird should be at the center stake and pull the trigger when the bird gets to the muzzle. We practice at the club high low report doubles. Shoot at the high house bird just past center stake, then the low bird comes out and you better know where it is supposed to go. The fun ones are when the low house comes out broken and you dust a low house chip on report.Alfred E. Neuman 2024

OK I had the field to myself yesterday and along with my download I went over my stances and point in points and then swung on to where I break the bird at each station.
This was a dry fire exercise with no gun using the rolled up download. I also set up two clays on either side of the Crossover stake so I could visualize what 4 feet looks like out that far.
I'll do better tomorrow.

Results yesterday were encouraging,,, optioned High 1 cuz I missed it, First shot of the day, then ran the next 8 shots + high 3, missed a few in the middle, then aced everything from 6 on for 19/25
Second rounds was more of the same 19/25 again. 3,4 and 5 are definitely my weak points but I will get them sooner or later.
These are all practice rounds so if you miss something you can just shoot it again and nobody gives a ship cuz we're just having fun.
I think I'm going to shoot our regularly scheduled Skeet shoot this Sunday which will be 4 rounds. see how I do. Got to load some ammo as I am getting low.
Just so you know I'm shooting Skeet and IC chokes in my gun. I have to pattern it when I get a chance to see what it is actually doing. I know that the closer shots are the easiest for my to break. the longer ones sometimes I wonder if it was pattern density or I jsut missed. I get some of them but the are low percentage. I've got 5 choke tubes for that gun. Skeet IC, Light Mod, Mod and I Mod. need a Full Choke tube to round out the selection.
I got one of the other guys to shoot his .410 yesterday and others will follow.

Skeet targets are the closest you will encounter in any of the clay sports, CYL, SK & IC are all fine.
Personally, I find 3, 4 & 5 to be easier than high 2 and low 6. Hold point is key, and break the target BEFORE the center stake. Commit to the break point and pull the trigger."A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"Comment

AS you all know by now I've just gotten back into shotgunning after a 3 year lay off. I've been shooting my Citori 32" .410 at the Skeet Field and we have Skeet Practice every Thursday and I've been getting better every week.
I shot a regular event last Sunday and did OK with a 15 ,16,16,17. Part of this is the 3,4,5 stations where I'm having trouble with the high house birds, and part of it is not being able to see the birds coming out of the low house until they are past the center stake due to the background. I lost 2-3 on every round to that alone.
Tomorrow I'm shooting my 12ga Citori XT which should make up for some of my misses.
Sunday we are shooting a Skeet Doubles only shoot, where you shoot doubles on every station. Should be fun.
I got my Dl366 loader down and started loading on it adn it has been a PITB relearning experience with that machine, and I now Regret selling my Dillon as it was a far superior machine.
On my last box of primers now, so we'll see how long they last?
