SD Shotgun Ammo

I keep 00 Buck and Slugs on hand. Run the 00 Buck for most situations. I keep it simple. Largely because I'm not really a shotgun guy. So I keep it as easy to understand an use properly as I can.

I’ll add an addendum that I don’t stock any flavor of ammo in multiple boxes until I can run a few through my shotgun to make sure it’ll run it. I’ve actually never encountered a load it wouldn’t run (Stoeger m3000). That’s the upside to reading the manual and following the directions on make sure the ammo is X drama or greater.

I load up w/Federal Flite Control #1 in my pumps to protect around the house.

I own the vacant lot behind my house to the next street, so somebody coming at me from the next street would have to traverse 75 yards w/no cover, so to address that I keep a couple of 10 rd. mags loaded up w/slugs 4 use in one of my Vepr's.

That area is fenced/locked so there's no confusion, anybody I catch back there knows they've got no business back there.

I have different muzzle brakes on my Verpr 12's 4 a reason. 1 gun is always dedicated to slugs, which is the Vepr w/the hex shaped muzzle brake; it's always next to my handguns so I can pull it out at night/in the dark, no mistake, even in a hidden gun chest full of guns.


Every gun stays in the same place, always.

What's your take on a VARIETY of different rounds for SD? SLUG/00/000/2/3/4/6? Or are you a single round type?

Mine is loaded with (in reverse order), SLUG; 00; 000; 2; 4 & 6.

I would forget.

I just load buckshot. Either 00 or #4 buck.

Believe it or not I do have some of these but not in my home defense pile. I use 00 Buck.

Must have updated the laws for CA, since back a few years ago I bought them while still in Cali.

One of the reasons why I always recommend Federal Shotshells is the big radius on the front of the shell. Note in pic.
