Oh don't get me wrong if all I had was an Ithaca I could do quite well with it, and I can work around the operational differences. The main thing is to not run the gun dry. As long as you are replacing rounds spent with new ones and not running dry you are fine. It is when you run dry away from Cover that you have a problem you can't readily deal with, and must load the mag one at a time to keep in the fight.
You can only reload any gun when time and cover permit.
But the side eject guns can be single loaded thru the Ejection Port which is much faster than stuffing one in the mag, so they are more efficient at keeping rounds going downrange, until you can completely load the magazine. This requires you to pay more attention to than say an AR with 30 rounds on board, and is not something you can forget about..
On an Ithaca the way you get around this is to fire, load one in the mag, rack, fire, load one, rack, which is just out of sequence form the other guns. but since you've trained with that gun you've got to run what you brung.
Shotguns are ammo hungry beasts. most only hold 5 rounds although some have as many as 8 on board, and if you go stupid you can get 10 or 12 on board with long mag tubes on some guns.
But my point is you must stay on top of keeping the gun loaded.
"Ammo Management" is the name of the game with shotguns.
I was going to bid on a 20" Rifled Deerslayer Barrel but it went for nearly $200 and I just couldn't bring myself to go that far for something that wouldn't get used much. Plus that my nice 1940 Ithaca is not going into battle anywhere but the dove fields ! It's not a riot gun!
Now if I came across a Police Ithaca for $200 It could be my car gun.

While looking for an Ithaca, I came across one in the CG marketplace. I met up locally with the seller and it was astounding. It was not the type of Ithaca I was looking for, as I do not hunt, or shoot clays much. But I could not resist buying it. It felt like a bargain for $250, and on the way out after the PPT, the seller just handed me about 5-6 boxes of birdshot that were not even part of the deal.
The seller said he bought it new in the early 1970’s and shot it a handful of times over the years. I cannot find any sign of wear, nick, rust, nothing.

Definitely cleaner than a whistle. Congratulations.True wealth is time. Time to enjoy life.

OK,,, you done good on that one!
Here'a Hot Tip: When you take the barrel off and replace it after cleaning you run the barrel nut out to trap the barrel in place. FINGER TIGHT only and you go out as far as you can and then back off to the nearest detent.
If you go out and leave it tight what happens is, as the gun heat up it puts more and more tension on the barrel and bends it upwards. this changes the POI.
My gun shot 3' high at 20 yards. I sent it back to Ithaca and they bent the barrel down and told me how to install it. Problem solved.
AS far as cleaning,,, a Bore Snake works wonderfully!
That is a nice Ithaca in near new condition and like I said,,, You done good!
Now go out and shoot it!!!
