If so, 982 here i come...
I own a 982 and I'll back up these facts as compared to the 870 Express Synthetic 18 5 shot or 7 shot:

    1. Patent on the 870 expired long ago (many decades?)
    2. The 982 is a very high quality SG. Better than the 870, don't know, it is a better value IMHO.
    3. The 982 does come with a heavy duty aluminum trigger guard. The recent 870's come with plastic trigger guards.
    4. The 982 is parkerized the 870 Express now comes with a "matte black finish" according to Remington's web site, the recent older models were blue I believe.
    5. The 982 is made of heavy all steel parts including extractor, hell even the mag cap would make an excellent weapon if slung with a string. The 870 does have MIM parts.

Other advantages the 982 has over the 870 Express
    1. The 982 has an Improved Cylinder barrel, the Express has a Cylinder Bore barrel.

    2. The 982 has a nice set of Ghost Ring Sights, the Express uses a single Bead Sight.

    3. The 982 holds one more shell (5+1) in the magazine than the standard 5 shot (4+1) 870, if you add a +2 mag extension than it will obviously hold (7+1) one more than the security 870 7 shot (6+1).

One disadvantage of the 982 is that it requires a spacer mod for 870 barrels to fit, but all other after market parts should fit.

Very nice comparison up there ^. I have both and let me tell ya, I would pick up the 982 over the express if I had to run with one.

Aw man, I just bought an 870 Express Security and saw the 982 for $199 at Big 5. I certainly don't /need/ another pump, but the price is pretty hard to pass up.

Yeah, it would be terrible to pay for an American gun made by American workers.

No company can operate in the US and offer that kind of features for 200 bucks, seeing how they pay their workers US wages and benefits.

Enjoy your Norinco. I'll continue supporting companies that support my rights.

The Norinco 982 is of far better quality than a modern commercial 870.

              -The 982 has a metal triggerguard, the 870 doesn't
              -The 982 is parkerized, the 870 isn't
-The 982 is made completely out of barstock milled steel parts, many crucial parts on the 870 such as the extractor are MIM.

Sure, you can get an 870 with all of the above features, but you would have to pay an additional $500 to get the "Police" model.

That's just a few reasons why I would pick a Norinco before I would choose a commercial off the shelf Remington.

This post has no place in a firearms forum. It belongs in a Political forum. Many firearm forums forbid this type of post. I would love to debate this with you because I have very strong feelings on the subject myself but it's the wrong place for it.

Is there a difference between the 870 express and the 870 express magnum? Or are they one in the same?

It was years ago but generally poor feeding/cycling/ejection and generally poor quality overall.

We tried to put a genuine Ithaca barrel but it didn't fit.

Not a political forum as mentioned but I do believe in many cases when purchasing new Norinco/Chicom firearms you are supporting the PLA.

Loctite the hell out of the rear ghost ring. Other than that, GREAT shotgun.
