I had one..HAD. It was garbage..The firing pin was so crudely machined/casted that it wouldnt strike the primer..after cleaning that up the locking mechanism kept hanging up..then to top it off..tried firing off a few rounds quickly and the action bars BENT..how in the?? My vote is saving and buying moss or remington...you get what you pay for! But hey,maybe they improved it!

I have never seen a 982 with a crudely machined fining pin and I have seen hundreds. If anyone has a picture of A crudely machine 982 firing pin, Post It. I would like to see what one looks like. My 982 is about 7 years old and I have dry fired it hundreds of times with no damage and it's had thousands of rounds fired. The firing pin is very well made.

Slide lock hanging up. It's an very easy fix, even for the inexperienced.

Everyone should always check any new pump shotgun to make sure the action bar are straight. It is possible they can be slightly bent at the factory. They are very easy to straighten.

As for the action bars bent on your 982 you must have done some seriously side to side torquing of the forend to bend them or you bent them taking the gun apart & putting it back together, which would be my guess. Both are operator error. Fact: The action bars on the 870 shotguns aren't anymore durable than the ones on the 982

This thread has many 982 owners and none have had the problems you posted. You must be a very unlucky guy.

Go to Big 5 and ask them how many 982 shotguns are returned because of problems, I bet very few. I have sold hundreds and never had one returned.

Theres a few posts about that but doesn't really matter much when US companys export to Mexico or overseas(German, Italy, China, ect..) Blame the goverment not the people that want to buy good quality guns for a decent price..

And these 982s are made in china.. And thats not really anything to run mouths about because these are made extremely well and EVERYTHING is made in china...

Anyone see the new Henry commercial? The guy takes everything out of his entire house thats not made in US.. He's left with his henry rifle and thats it, lol

Taking a LEO firearm course and the other week was shotgun day, so I brought my Norinco 987 put a few slugs through it as well as one of the range's 870s. To me the action was identical.

The Norinco felt a bit lighter, which was odd because the last time I had a Norinco and 870 side by side I thought the Norinco was heavier. Butthis tie it was a true police model 870 with side saddle, so that may account for a few more ounces.

Keep in mind that the Norinco comes with a very nice ghost ring sight, and all other parts, except for the barrel, are supposed to be interchangeable with 870 parts and accessories.
