    Olympic Trap Shooting

I noticed that all of the finalists in both the Men's and Women's Trap shooting used O/U guns.

I would have thought that some would be using single shot guns.

    Does anyone know the reason?

    Beretta seemed to dominate.

    No American men.

All shooters shot 75 targets to get into the Semi-Finals. Then they shot 15 to figure out the Bronze Medal and the Gold Medal match-ups.

Bunker/international/Olympic trap allows the use of a 2nd shot (except for finals events I think?)

        Corey cogdell shoots a k80

        Amber hill (UK) shoots Perazzi

You'll pretty much see beretta, Krieghoff and perazzi in most instances

well, the men will be doing "double trap" later in the games, so they will need 2 barrels for that. might be easier to just always use a double-barrel gun and only load one then to change from single-barrel to double-barrel and change the dynamics of the gun. most single-barrel trap guns that I have seen are still O/U designs, but with just one barrel.

and skeet shooting has doubles, so they need two barrel, not just a single-shot.

pretty sure in the end its better to just master one double-barrel gun and download for singles.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

That would make sense for the recreational shooter (like me) but these shooters are specialists. On the American Teams, different shooters qualified for the 3 disciplines; Trap (bunker?), Double Trap and Skeet.

well since double trap and skeet require two shots, pretty much a given that they will be using a double-barrel O/U. for single-shot bunker trap, only one shot is needed, but its still going to be an O/U gun usually. there are very few single-shot "semi-autos" out there. I could see possibly swapping from a double-barrel trap barrel to a single-shot trap barrel, but why would someone do that if they shoot both disiplines?

Olympic trap is very different than US trap. This article is a good overview: https://www.usashooting.org/library/..._intl_trap.pdf

In Olympic trap, you get two shots during singles.

My friend's wife (who's going for her 6th medal) has said that her Perazzi
"field gun" is what was most comfortable for her to shoot with so has stuck with it. At least that's what I remembered her saying.

                  WTB used AK MFER.

well, there you go then. all 3 disciplines have the need for 2-shots. double-barrel O/U is where its at.

Sounds like that would be Kim Rhode.

that's pretty much the way I thought it would be.

Mens trap consists of 125 birds, with a 25 bird shoot-off for the best shooters. Women shoot 75 + 25 additional targets in the final round for the six best shooters.

American trap, much like American skeet and American sporting clays are dumbed down versions of the International / Olympic games.
