    Rack pump shotgun too fast?

Is it possible to rack the pump too quickly after you pressed the trigger such that the round haven't completely fired yet thus throwing off your aim and releasing gases from the breech end causing injury?
Should I wait a bit before racking it?

The 870 Remington releases the slide as soon as the hammer hits the firing pin. If you are pulling the forend into your shoulder, the slide will move back as the gun is being fired. Even though it has this feature, the shot will have left the barrel before the bolt is unlocked.

P.S. I had some odd handloads that would fire a few seconds after the hammer dropped. I can't remember what type powder it was. It happened in extremely cold weather. If I had been pulling the forend back the bolt would have opened before the shell fired.

Is it possible to throw off your aim by trying to rack faster than you are capable? Sure. But the issue isn't mechanical in nature.

Yes, you CAN fit a case of shotgun shells into a .50cal ammo can.

I think i found an optimal solution for ammo can labeling.

I made this target for the NRA's Marksman pistol test. I think it's a lot better than the paper plate they suggest.

If you begin the racking process after you pull the trigger, the shot is long gone before you can move it at all.

You wouldn't believe how many people have argued with me that they can cycle a pump way faster than a semi-auto.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Any of you guys ever shoot skeet or trap doubles with an old Model 12?

Hold the trigger back and the second shot fires when the action closes on the forward stroke. I think it was called "slam firing"? Never timed it, but I believe it is effectively as fast, if not faster, than a semi. I got pretty good at it but some of the old guys I used to shoot with were phenomenal and preferred their pumps to a double or O/U. A couple of the old timers at my old club could run the field regularly shooting that way. I think the M12 is the only design that could be shot in that manner.

I wouldn't expect people who have never seen or done it to believe it.

The Winchester model 1897 do not require a trigger reset, also the Savage 520/620. I think also the early Ithaca model 37.

Many people probably wouldn't believe me but I have been able to shoot doubles with a 20 ga winchester 1300. Used to shoot clays at my family's property back in the 90s. Not saying I could do the feat regularly but I have done it a least a few times. The last time I had my former roommate there with me and he witnessed me pull it off one time. So I know doubles are possible with a pump shotgun.
