for the price I love my 930

if you use 2 3/4 inch shells you can hold 8
it empties all 8 pretty quick too

It all depends on how much you want to spend.

There are a few Franchi shotgun variants which are not banned by name in CA... If you have 4k to blow on something awesome, there are some really interesting possibilities which have recently opened up.

Get a benelli M4 and call it a day...

The thing about Benellis is that they are inertia driven rather than gas driven. I am no expert but I've heard that inertia driven guns must be shouldered properly to operate reliably. The gas guns like Remingtons and Mossbergs will function without a good shoulder mount, but they will have to cleaned more often than inertia driven guns.
I bring this up because my wife and son prefer to shoot our defense shotgun tucked in their armpit rather than shouldered.
            Just my 2 cents...

Get a Benelli M4 than, gas operated. Easy to clean too, compared to my dad's Remy 1100.

If you want to spend less than half the money, still want a good one, you can look at an H&R Excell Auto 5, too. Works like a dream, Rem mag extensions fit... it's gas op, too. The only con I know of is that Knoxx doesn't make a SpecOps stock for it, so if you shoot 3" 1oz+ slugs, you may want a Limbsaver... What do you intend to use it for?

Yeah - I have seen a few people when I'm out trap shooting with Benelli's that are jam-o-matic's. I figured that was the cause and when testing it out by shooting from the hip they jammed at least once per tube...these were M1 Super 90's I believe with #7 2 3/4 rounds - not special light recoil loads.

I am a big fan of Winchester shotguns, it's just what I grew up using and they just are better made than the Remington 870, the trigger it'self is a night and day difference.

It's harder to find accessories for the M3, ie Surefire forearm. The M3 and the M1 are both great, but shotgun is secondary or even tertiary to handguns and rifles and sometimes I honestly can't tell the difference between the M1/M3 w/ghost rings and a Franchi 612 with a simple bead sight for the occasional target shooting.

I just today stumbled onto a Mossberg 930 SPX at my local gun shop which had apparently been sitting in their rifle rack for 3-4 mos. It was sitting right next to a Benelli M4 which gave me a chance to handle both. I must admit I was very impressed with the 930 SPX, particularly as the M4 [ an EXCELLENT shotgun by any standard] is twice as much dough. For me the sight package on the Mossy sealed the deal, and several minutes later found me in possession[ well, after 15 days ] of a new 930 SPX.
Will post pics and range report shortly thereafter.
By the way, the pistol grip/ butt stock configuration of the Benelli M4 sure is comfortable. Too bad the 930 SPX isn't configured that way...

Choate makes a pistol grip for it. pretty nice too

ElecFac If you bought that shotgun at Oaktree you're welcome. I tested a 930 field gun set up for 3 gun and recommended Shawn put the SPX model in the store. I was surprised how long it stayed in there.

I think SuperSet bought one also. They are great guns for the money, for me need a little work for 3 gun.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

I know that its not semi-A, but my mossberg seems alright....never has an issue with it at all...plus it holds damn near a box of shells without a vest

                                snypr,

                                which side saddle is that?

I've had a hard time getting side saddles to fit on the ATI top-folded Moss 500 while still letting the top close fully

                                which one are you running?

                                thanks
