This has been beat to death many times and for good reason. Maintenance on a Benelli is almost none minimal oil. Maintenance on a Remington is changing parts.

At a match the guns that puke are Remingtons. The top shooters shoot Benellis.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Beretta 1201FP, that's what I've got. Pretty much the same guts as a M1S90 but less expensive. I'll never get use to the weird loading process, but it's a lightweight shottie that can handle light loads. 5 or 6+1 capacity, depending on the length of the shot round (Winchester rounds are shorter than PMC).

I've had people shoot it and afterward they'll make me an offer to buy it.

I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

So you get a Rem Police 11-87 where all the parts are forged and not plastic

I really struggled with the same question. Went with the converted Saiga 12, MD 20 drum and 10 rd mags.

Bongos the 11 87 police still requires parts changed that's part of maintenance of a Remington. I know I've owned both the 11-87 and an 1100. All they did was make my Benelli's cost more.

Not worth the $3000-15,000 for a used pump/semi-auto 6 round magazine fed shotgun.

FYI. There were only 180 Franchi SPAS-15s imported into the USA during the 90s.

                    11-02-2008. Sold for $9025.00 with 4 magazines.
                    11-27-2008. Sold for $15,000.00 with 6 magazines.

Get a Benelli M4, Benelli M2 with Comfortech or an FN SLP Mark 1. All have great reviews on being reliable.

I know where one is in CA and have shot it. I was wondering where it would be rated by you guys.

Get an Benelli M4 or FN SLP Mark 1. They are reliable and fit your requirement for capacity, M4 = 5+1+1 and FN = 8+1. Both have much better reviews by competitors than Remingtons. Both are more expensive than they were a year ago.

I would go with the 1187 or the SLP. On the other hand, we have a semi-auto Escort PS that has eaten about 12K rounds doing T&E work and demo shoots. It's a cheap gun (about $300) but I've run circles around an SLP with it numerous times. Whatever you do, get a gas-op shotgun, I know they're dirty, but the recoil and controllability will be much better. Benellis are nice, but the initial recoil impulse before the bolt unlocks is pretty stiff.
