Dickinson pump action shotgun? any good?

Okay, I've never even heard of this Turkish made shotgun before. Is it crap? Or golden?

Tell me before a blow a couple hundred bucks on this mystery weapon!

I'm going to lean on the side of crap. If you want to spend $200 on a shotgun, then H&R Pardner Pump is always my recommendation.

Care to explain WHY you chose to lean on the side of crap?

I haven't seen one of these in the wild, but I have checked out their automatics and was impressed. There are LOTS of great shotguns coming out of Turkey right now, from lots of brands. I'd also note that Dickinson is a local company out of Moorpark.

I think you may have been a bit premature to reccomend a heavy Chinese made 870 copy.

I agree with Radio flyer. My Winchester SXP was made in Turkey and so far it's been flawless in the field. Haven't heard of any issues with Turkish shotguns. I'd be willing to bet there are quite a few companies contracting with Turkey, high and low end.

I've seen a tiny amount of reporting concerning this brand online, but nothing so far about their pump-actions.

I'm going to pull the trigger on this purchase today unless I hear something to scare me off in the next hour!

I'm more than willing to admit if I am wrong, which I may be here. I do know Turkey has been cranking out some cool semi auto shotguns, especially those patterned after AR-15's, but that doesn't mean I would pick one up over a Remington, Benelli, Beretta, FN, Vepr, Saiga etc. I recommended to a friend to buy the Savage/Steven's pump shotgun at a similar price point imported by a reputable American company and it fell apart on his first range trip. I've never heard of these particular Turkish shotguns, and never seen one in a store or at the range. While my head may be in the sand, that doesn't bode well for it having the proven track record other comparably priced competitors have.

If something breaks, then what? With the H&R, you can buy an 870 part. Want to upgrade, then what? With the H&R, you can buy an 870 part.

The H&R is NOT heavy, I have one with both the 18.5" and 28" barrels and it is no different than any other similarly designed shotgun. And if you shoot defensive loads, a little extra weight and a quality stock go a long way.

              Made in China, IIRC.

Why buy something from turkey or china when you can get USA made stuff from Remington or Mossburg??
At least with these two you can get parts that will really fit and all sort of goodies if you want to hand a bunch of junk on your shotgun.

Oh absolutely, but it has enough of track record to prove its value. I haven't seen the same out of the competition at that price point, that's why I recommend it.

Mossberg Maverick is supposed to be a good value as well. Made in Mexico, and I have no personal experience with one.

Remington or Mossberg is liquid if you ever decide to sell. No name guns not so much unless they have a firesale price.

I have to agree. If the Turkish guns don't take off there will be little parts and aftermarket support in the future, and the resale market will be soft. Personally I would stick with a proven product, and probably focus on looking for a good condition used model so my money would go further.

                        Well, I've done it now

Yep I bought it. Now for the wait. I promise to report my findings.

As to those who ask, why? Why for godsakes buy some oddball like that Davidson when there are perfectly good Mavericks or whatnot to be had?

Why? Because I already have a 12 gauge Mossberg 500A, and the Davidson's clearance price was too tempting to pass up.

My Mossberg is okay, but... the Mossberg stock LOP is too long for me and the forend is too short for prone operation. Short of bubba gunsmithing, the price of fixing those faults on my Mossberg isn't much less than what I'm paying for the Davidson. I really like the stock and forend on that Davidson.

If the Davidson proves defective I can get my money back from the dealer (except the DROS fee). If the Davidson works I can sell my Mossberg or trade it for something else. (I've had my eye on the .410 Mossberg of late)

Never heard of them. But; that is a very light 12 gauge AND with that short (just legal) barrel you may not be able to shoot it at some ranges. There are ranges that require >24" barrels. Let us know how it performs.

Maverick is assembled in Eagle Pass, TX. Parts supposedly come from Mexico.

Maverick is owned by Mossberg and most of the parts on the 88 are interchangeable with the Mossberg 500.

Maverick 88 would be my choice for a $200 SG.
